A question for those of you that live in a flat/maisonette

Help... I have a leak from my bathroom upstairs that has leaked through the ceiling into my kitchen downstairs. I pay a maintenance charge each month to the management company that provides building/house cover and I pay a seperate contents insurance cover. Has this happened to anyone else? Who do I claim through? My neighbour wasn't much help and the other flats in the block are rented out. Typically it's happened on a Sunday and the management company are closed.
Any advice gratefully accepted

It would be a buildings insurance issue for the ceiling (contents would be for any damage possessions) - but you may find that the excess for water damage is higher than the cost of repair (depending on the policy).
Have you found and fixed the leak?
Is the ceiling sagging or is it just a water damaged patch (ie does the whole ceiling need placing or just a repair)?

Hi AwkwardPaws27
Thank you for responding.
Have you found and fixed the leak? - No I have looked under the bath but I have no idea where the leak is coming from as it all seems completely dry.
Is the ceiling sagging or is it just a water damaged patch (ie does the whole ceiling need placing or just a repair)? - There was sagging in a small patch but it seems to have been absorbed into the ceiling now so will just be a repair job.
Just to be clear are you saying I can claim off the managements insurance? I will of course check with them first thing tomorrow morning, but I'm fretting about the bill as I've just brought a newer car and have visions of selling it x

I can't say for definite as I haven't seen your insurance policy, but if you have buildings insurance through the management company then it should be covered under that.
Whether it will cost enough to make it worth claiming & who is responsible for the excess is something to discuss with the management company.
If you can't see where the leak is coming from then you need a plumber to trace it before you repair the ceiling (otherwise it could reoccur).
