Remodelling kitchen - what order??

I'd like to look at options / feasibility / costs for knocking through a (supporting) wall, adding a back door and then a new kitchen in the resulting space.

Do I need an architect? A builder? A specialist kitchen design company? Ikea kitchen design programme??? I'm clueless!!!

Obviously don't want to waste money on services I don't need and happy to investigate the DIY kitchens plus kitchen fitter option I've read about on here. But not sure if the building work will knock that idea on the head??

How can I get a kitchen design before the space I want actual exists?? We need to get costs before we start knocking walls down Grin

I know this will be bigger, more expensive and take much longer than I think it will so am asking for your wisdom before I even start.

We are looking at having an external wall knocked through and fitting french doors in a reception room. We are then looking at putting brand new kitchen in there.

Finally found a builder to look at job this week. He recommended a structural engineer who we have engaged directly to come out and do the calculations. Builder will then quote based on that.

Might be an idea to get a builder/kitchen design company in to look at the space. You may need an idea of what you want to do with the kitchen before employing a builder.

You can find out a lot from the design surveys about what is and isn’t possible, and get ideas for the design.

Also our local independent kitchen shop has a builder he works alongside.

The best advice I can give is to take your time, get a few surveys and think about how you use the space.
