Using Boiler with Drained Central Heating

Hi,

I have a Worcester Greenstar 24i system boiler, with hot water tank and a separate sealed central heating system for the radiators. I don't think there is any tank for the radiators, just a sealed feed off the boiler with its own filling loop.

I need to do some work on the radiators and probably drain them for a few days.

So quick question, can these boilers be used for hot water still if the CH is turned off and the system is fully drained? Or is that dangerous / a bad idea?

Thanks!

I think you might end up wrecking your boiler. You should really ask the advice of a local plumber. If you have a separate hot water tank is it also wired up as an immersion heater? That would be a solution.
Just curious - what work are you doing on the radiators that need them to be drained? Sounds rather advanced diy to me.

No.

@PigletJohn May correct me, but we have a system like that and an option is not to drain the whole system, but just remove the radiators. May sure you don't leave the thermostat on the valve though and use a screw cap for them.

However if you have to remove all the radiators it will be a real fath when they are full of water without draining the system...I see DH do it when we decorate.
