Help please. Norfolk where might suit us?

Currently live in the west of the country but getting fed up with the generally cooler and wetter weather we get here and considering a change to somewhere east and within easy reach of the coast. We dont like it too busy so thought Norfolk might fit the bill but don't really know where to start looking. We want a bungalow in a nice residential area or village but not too isolated. No schools to worry about but some amenities nearby would be good.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Wow so many replies since I checked in last. Been having a look on Rightmove, haven't seen anything yet but you've all given me lots more to look at, thank you.

We are early 60s retired so no commuting or kids to worry about but those of you who mentioned transport we'd like to be able to walk to a shop, pub etc and don't want to drive everywhere but car to the coast and Norwich or another centre would be fine. At the moment I'm a 10 min walk from a market town with several supermarkets including Waitrose but no Tesco! If I'm honest the walkability to these service is probably top of my requirements as I can't imagine not having this so Wymondham or similar still looking like a good starting point. Thank again to everyone who responded.

There are some nice villages south of Norwich- Poringland, Trowse etc. Poringland is a large village only 4 miles out of the city centre with all amenities such as supermarket, doctors, pubs, post office, chemist etc. Also regular buses taking only 15 mins into the city centre.

Almost any market town will have a supermarket you can walk to.

Maybe Poringland has a supermarket... most places called "village" in Norfolk lack a post office & only have something Spar-like for food shopping or maybe a farmers shop with overpriced goods.

Pubs we're good for, though. Have to get down to hamlet size before the pub is gone.

...AND you can buy fuel in Aylsham nowadays. Bliss!

Something else to consider - without wanting to sound pessimistic- is how far away the nearest hospital is. Norfolk and Norwich is the main one and then you have a few smaller ones like West Suffolk and a few others on the Yarmouth side. If you live somewhere like Wymondham or Attleborough or where we are you’re looking at a 25 mile trip to Norfolk and Norwich for A and E or outpatient appointments. It’s not something anyone likes to think about but it really is frustrating if you’re not used to it all. My mil had breast cancer and lives in Swaffham and ended up travelling to Addenbrooks for treatment every week as they were the nearest place with the particular facilities she needed.

what does "nice residential area" mean to you, OP?

Sooverthemill · 31/08/2019 18:17

Whatever you do make sure you are near a hospital. We are 50 minutes from nearest A&e and it's not very good. Ambulance takes 50 minutes too. We have had to make use of ambulance many times since we moved. N&N is quite good

And we had to go to Addenbrookes for cancer diagnosis and treatment as it's the regional hub.
