Owner away and bank might decline mortgage

Hello its my first time posting just need a bit of advice really, apologies for the loong post

Me and DH are buying our first home, after a lot of searching our offer on a house was accepted. Mortgage paperwork drawn up, solicitors contacted. The banks said they would start their surveys and checks on the property.

My DH rang the bank a few weeks ago to ask about the progress, was told theyve been trying to get the estate agent to ring the tenant/owner but no luck.
We were then told a week later by the estate agent that the owner is away until September 15th and the tenant has refused entry to survey the property until the owner gets back

DH got an email from the bank today saying as nothing is proceeding and theyre a standstill they might withdraw their mortgage offer and we'd basically have to apply again .
DH emailed back saying the owner is back on September 15th and if they could possibly wait until then as its just a waiting game for the owner to get back, hes waiting to hear back from the bank

My question is, is this possible.. to wait until the owner gets back and resume everything or are we BU making the bank wait

So baffled and upset as we're just left in the lurch

Any advice would be greatly appreciated Smile

All I can say is, if the current tenant is being this difficult now over a survey just wait until the time comes for them to leave.

You need to explain all this to the seller's Estate Agent. They need to do all they can to persuade the tenant to allow access for the survey. Once the EA and their client (the owner) realise that the sale could fall through because you might not get your mortgage offer then that might focus everyone's minds and get the process moving again. The EA and the owner will not want to lose the sale.

I would expect this to be dealt with by your lawyers (as an ex property lawyer).
Hold tight, some purchases just take many many months with bumps in the road! Good luck

Make dam sure you don't exchange contracts until the tenant has left or you may become an unwilling landlord and can cost a fortune to evict them
