saniflow for holiday house

Hello,

I'v e read a lot about the drawbacks of saniflow units. We are looking to buy a holiday house and the one we are interested in has a saniflow macerating unit in the main bathroom. It is linked to the only shower in there as well as to the toilet. There is one gravity flow toilet on the ground level but no bath or shower there. My question is whether leaving the saniflow for weeks or even sometimes months without being able to flush it is possible. I've read a few places that you need to flush on a daily/weekly basis so that the seals don't dry out. If this is so, does this mean we shouldn't buy a house with a saniflow if we won't be there to regularly flush? Thanks for any help!

just for you. then possibly you can live with it.
it's noisy though and gets easily blocked.
if you are looking at renting it out no way would I consider something that block if even thick toilet paper is used.

thanks orangeshoebox. Do you know if it malfunctions if left unflushed for an extended period of time?

It malfunctions if you even look at it the wrong way! They really are dreadful.

eesh....we are so close to signing on the dotted line....

often they are put in because putting in proper pipework is more expensive but not impossible.

can you get a plumber in to see if changing to proper plumbing is possible and at what cost!

socowonder · 25/08/2019 20:19

orangeshoebox no, unfortunately we have looked into this it's a semi-d from the 30s and there is now way to get proper pipework upstairs and no space to put shower/bath downstairs....

It would be a dealbreaker for me

They block if tampons are flushed down them.... not ideal for a holiday let!

Had a saniflo in old house - great idea in principle but when a guest put a tampon down it and then her OH had a big dump afterwards, the thing was churning shit for hours until XH took it apart [vom]

We won't be letting it out, it'll be just us, and we can be careful. However, I'm wondering if they can be left indefinitely without flushing.

I have one in my holiday let, we put it in.

We have a sign on the door into the bathroom and two inside warning about not flushing anything down. It is also on the first page of our welcome book, which I leave open for them to read.

socowonder · 26/08/2019 20:51

Movinghouseatlast, do you leave the saniflo for weeks at a time -- maybe between guests.... and is it ok when the new guests arrive if it hasn't been flushed for a couple weeks or months?
