I'm moving soon and bathroom needs updating, no shower installed only attachment to taps. Can one kindly tell me how to organise a new bathroom step by step? If I pick my suite, tiles and flooring would a builder go and collect from store? And do I hire a plumber separately or will builder sub contract one? I'm a complete novice, any advice will be appreciated, thanks in advance!

bathroom in the new property or in the old property?

If in the new property I would honestly live with it for a while as you get a better idea of what you will want, where to put lighting etc

I’m doing up a small cheap flat I’ve bought as a holiday home. Last week I took the bath panel off to find the floor is rotten underneath and the bath is moving, so can’t be used till fixed. Plan was to replace the bathroom suite in a couple of years, so had to bring that forward to now!

Basically, what I did - and it’s probably not the best option but has worked for me - was walk along the road to a small kitchen/bathroom shop I’d passed a few times. Poster in the window said they were doing special deal on bathroom supplied and fitted for £4,000. With a bit of negotiation on amount of tiling and some other aspects of the offer, I got a bathroom for £3,500. This includes partial tiling, no flooring, and does include a shower and screen not in the initial offer. They’ll remove and dispose of the old bathroom, and do the whole installation. As far as I can make out, it’s a reasonable deal and much less hassle than having to find the different trades etc myself.
