Peed off with London now and house prices - where can we move to?

I do like living here and dh and I have well paid jobs but still cant afford tro upgrade to a 3 bed place. I've been looking to emigrate to Canada just to get a larger property - not fussed about house size so much as garden size and wanting to be in more rural area.

Where can we (mixed race family) buy a good sized 3 bed house with large garden outside London for less than 250? Must have very good schools and be in nice area!

N. America. Some parts of the Continent.

You'd still have to get a job to pay the mortgage, and that's the catch for a lot of places.

parts of worthing and goring are v.nice. and near the beach

Twiglett · 05/08/2007 21:05

won't that bit a bit of a commute

snurk

WideWebWitch · 05/08/2007 21:05

High Wycombe?
Bristol?
Chippenham?
Frome?
North home counties, i.e. Luton/Dunstable/Northampton/Milton Keynes direction (we're in that area although don't want to say where exactly)

what's important? mainline to London? which side of London do you need to be near? if any?

MrsScavo · 05/08/2007 21:06

Do you need easy access into London?

Lots of people in Rugby commute, and you can easily get a three/four bed for under 250.

You could try the lovely north west of england

Some of the areas here are lovely

NormaStanleyFletcher · 05/08/2007 21:07

And we have jobs here too

oregonianabroad · 05/08/2007 21:07

Co Durham, but there are drawbacks.

Thanks all! Our jobs are easily transferable although I love my job at the moment so would be loathe to leave it.

Busy researching Alberta at the moment too.

Oh gawd. I love Alberta.

JoMa · 05/08/2007 21:36

Suffolk?
lots of family homes with big gardens here for under 250, and only just over an hour to London on the train if you did decide to stay in your job

hercules1 · 05/08/2007 21:58

Suffolk and Worthing sounds worth some research.

ALberta looks quite hopeful as we could get jobs there under their under pressure job scheme thing as our professions are in demand there. House prices quite high though it seems due to oil boom. What area of ALberta would you recommend expat?
