Budget is up to £120k. Want to buy a very small house or cottage. Would be nice if it was pretty or distinctive property so probably something a little older. One bed at least. But if there were more... that would be okay. Probably not an enormous place but that'd probably not be in my budget anyway. Would be nice if there was some nice countryside or a beach nearby. Don't need a huge megalopolis of shops but maybe a few. If there was a Tesco's (or similar) in walking distance (a couple of miles). Would be good if there was a cinema but would maybe forego that for nice country walks. And a library.

Somewhere in the north east you’ll get some lovely stuff for that budget

peachgreen · 19/08/2019 13:05

Northern Ireland.

jobhunter7 · 19/08/2019 13:24

Was thinking probably England, but haven't ruled out Scotland or Wales.

jobhunter7 · 19/08/2019 13:26

I'm thinking of Yorks myself.

I have just seen a lovely one bedroom house near Cardiff airport.

If I was on my own it would be perfect!

If anybody could suggest some nice small towns or villages that'd be great...

Castle Cary, Stroud, Bishops Castle, Ludlow?

Ariela · 19/08/2019 16:02

Stourport on Severn is fairly cheap but seems a nice place. (not lived there mind you)

Cobblersandhogwash · 19/08/2019 16:17

Scottish Borders.

bluewedge · 19/08/2019 16:22

@higgyhog

Castle Cary, Stroud, Bishops Castle, Ludlow? I had a look on rightmove and zoopla. Nice places, but a bit above my budget.

Alnwick/Hexham/morpeth in the north east. They are all in Northumberland. Cullercoats or Tynemouth less rural on the North East coast. Can get metro in to Newcastle

bluewedge · 19/08/2019 17:09

@katycb

Tynemouth - looks pretty...

But can't see any properties there I could afford...

May make a nice day out though sometime...

Roslin
North Berwick
Musselburgh

You might get more precise answers if you give a little context. For example, why are you looking to move? Do you need to work, or have access to a particular industry or sector? Do you have family or friends in a particular area that you'd want to be able to travel to?

East Lancs could suit. Property in and around Burnley, Colne, Padiham, Brierfield and (selective parts of) Nelson are plentiful at and under your budget, and you'd have terrific scenery on your doorstep as well as being close to the Lake District, Ribble Valley and Forest of Bowland, Yorkshire Dales and Moors, and North Wales.

I just had a look at Tynemouth again and was surprised it was so much! (We don't live far away) Alnwick has a few terraces and flats that would be in budget. It's a market town with good amenities like lesiure centre, super market etc but it's rural and near the coast. There are a few like this one www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-60615372.html

Any of the small towns along the north east coast of Scotland - Nairn, Forres, Hopeman, Burghead, Lossiemouth, Fochabers, Cullen, Portsoy, Banff... Beautiful scenery, lots going on, well resourced, property good value.

Lincolnshire has some cheap areas. Louth, Gainsborough, Brigg, Cleethorpes
