Hi There we are moving very soon from Enfield in london to either london Colney or boxmoor Hemel Hempstead. We are family of 4 ,my sons are 2 and 10 year old and we would like to get my 10 years old one to good secondary school. We love St Albans but quickly realised that our budget ( 450000 for a 3 bedroom house) won't get us a house near St.Albans city centre. So now we are searching surrounding areas like London Colney and also Boxmoor in Hemel hempstead. Can you guys please let me know which aeria in your opinion is better .I do like the look of Boxmoor but there only seems to be couple of secondary schools Hemel Hempstead School and Astley Cooper. Are they any good??? Now, in London Colney most of the catchment area will be for St Albans secondary schools. Does anyone know is Samuel Ryder is a good school? I'm totally lost and don't know how to make a decision .Are there any parts of London Colney that are not very nice, places to avoid perhaps?Thank you in advance on any help, information given.Dee

This is where you can compare schools.

The Hemel Hampstead school looks very good academically. Samuel Ryder doesn't look great and Astley Cooper I wouldn't touch with a barge pole.

I know someone who works in the school system, and she would recommend Samuel Ryder over a lot of schools.

I went to Astley Cooper - take any other school over that one.

It was rough enough when I was there 25 years ago - it's much worse now.

I would go Boxmoor over London Colney but only if you can get Hemel Hempstead it JFK schools.

Have a look at the admissions stats for previous years. (Some schools have to be contacted directly for this info). You can also use the Herts website to calculate your home/school distance.
