Best West or North West London area to buy house with a big garden

Hi All,

I'm asking out of curiosity for my brother and his family. They want to move from South London to West or North West London zones 2 or 3 and really want a big garden for their kids to play in. I'm talking 70 - 100 feet or more. It's hard to know what kind of area that would be, it's likely to be very very local eg street level. I've told them to forget Shepherd's Bush / Hammersmith which is where I live.

I mentioned Ealing as a possibility - but I don't know exactly where in Ealing. I think their budget is around 1.5m, but I can't say for sure. They'd need a 4 bed house preferably.

Any ideas??!!

Really want them to move closer! So any help would be great!

Bigger gardens are generally in the outer suburbs. Zones 2-3 might have the odd house with a decent garden but not easy to find. Don't they have other requirements like schools, local amenities, commutes etc?

Hanwell?

Islington, perhaps? Maybe not West enough though?

Mill Hill, Edgware, Pinner, Eastcote

Actually, on a local level, maybe there will have more luck along train tracks. In my area, those houses tend to have double depth gardens.
Or 30's houses rather than Victorian- wider and deeper plots. Ealing might have one of those.

That's in Ealing (no idea on the area, though.

They could find something that fits for that budget in Ealing but gardens of that size are a rarity so they'd need to be in a position to move quickly.

Target an area then scour google earth to find roads with longer gardens?

EssentialHummus · 17/08/2019 08:48

I agree about Google Earth. Or possibly ask on local FB groups if there are any streets with particularly large gardens. Or consider buying something with scope to buy derelict or unused adjoining land. Or sign up to estate agents with "garden over x size" as a particular need.

Ours is enormous but through a combination of accidents really - particularly wide house, corner plot etc. Sadly not in West London!

Mill Hill. Nice high street, good schools and the Thameslink is brilliant for getting into town.

Thanks all!
