How long to find somewhere to buy?

How long did it take you to find your house and how many did you view?

The initial excitement has thoroughly worn off and coupled with a quiet market where very little is coming on, I’m fed up already. I’ve been seriously looking for 3 months with a casual eye for several months before that.

Give me hope that I’ll find somewhere please?

The last house took months and months to find but that’s because we wanted to move to a new area and needed to find the right house and the right area. We looked around pretty much all of S London and the commuter belt so it took almost a year to stumble across the perfect house in the perfect spot.

We only viewed 3 houses to get the current one (same area).

We’ve now been casually looking for over a year (a couple of new boxes to tick) but haven’t been able to find anything that didn’t come with a whole new set of compromises.

Are you sure that what you’re looking for actually exists?

I'm in the East, and just about to list my house.
I agree with you OP, there's very little coming onto the market.
I'm hoping that may change as we hit September, which has always seemed a popular month to list properties.
Brexit is making home owners nervy and the hints of Boris Prick Johnson that he may change stamp duty rules in his budget.
All we can really do is keep everything crossed and carry on feverishly checking Rightmove 👩‍💻

We forensically searched Rightmove and did some driveby's for several months - once we got our house under offer we planned to view just two. In fact in the end we just viewed one - which was perfect for us in terms of both the house and the location (and price!!!) and got our offer accepted the same day. We knew the second one would have always been a compromise so we cancelled that viewing. But it was scary as it really was the only house that ticked all our boxes. So I had many sleepless nights as the vendors completely useless solicitors seemed to take forever. Happy ending though - we've been in three weeks now. Agree about Brexit - now it's getting nearer people are getting nervous but also hanging on for the possibility of the stamp duty changes.

we refined our search on rightmove to town (the one we live in) price, bedrooms, type of house (semi) with a garage (no 1 priority) and looked at about 6 houses found the one we wanted, seller messed us around wouldnt take any offers we made below asking (overpriced) she did us a favour the one we have bought came back up after a sale fell through yes this one needs more work doing but has plenty of potential to be our forever home as we are both in our 60s so dont want anything more than we have
