Hi,

Just wondering what people's thoughts and experiences are please?

I have a small bathroom, about 1.8m x 1.6m on the first floor which does really need redoing.

I don't really have a use for a bath so leaning towards a shower only. I think I'd prefer a shower cubicle but i do live in a hard water area so cleaning the screens would be a pain. Someone suggested a wetroom but I'm concerned about a hidden leak if as its on the first floor and how awkward that would be to fix.

There is a chance a may rent out in the future as well so whilst I know i would do the work for me, it is a factor to consider.

I'd be really grateful for your thoughts. Thank you.

I hate wet rooms. I want to go to a toilet and not leave with wet feet.

I agree with everyone who says no to a wet room because they are a PITA. I replaced mine with a proper shower with doors; and get to work with the cilit bang when needed.

I love your tile colour Mumtofour

I really hate wetrooms. Water everywhere. Reminds me too much of dirty wet floors in swimming pool changing rooms. I could cope if there was a glass screen.

GOODCAT · 12/08/2019 21:52

We have a wetroom but do have a screen too. Love not having to climb up into the shower. We do not get anything but the shower wet. I really like it.

Get a water softener no more limescale marked glass cubicle!!!

Our wet room has a big screen so only the shower area has a wet floor?

I've just seen the further messages.

Thanks for your thoughts and photos.

I like your colourscheme @Mumtofourandnomore.

The poster who has a wet room with a screen doesn’t have a wet room! The whole point of a wet room is that it’s open!

They must be effectively tanked with an efficient drain and slope to the drain. They really do need under floor heating. If they are not designed properly, and you need them to be big spaces, they are awful. Avoid in a tiny space.

In your space, get a shower in the 1.6m end and then you should have space for a basin and loo without any problem. It’s a bit tight but doable!

RandomMess · 13/08/2019 18:45

I'd just get a low profile tray with a straight screen, no door etc.

PickAChew · 13/08/2019 18:49

@Spinnaret your wetroom is larger than most people's living rooms, so hardly indicative.

Cyclemad222 · 13/08/2019 19:18

I think it might be a globalisation problem - what works in California doesn't work in soggy rainy England but the design fashions cross continents!

Sounds like you're off the idea but if you do go for it I'd be very careful about choosing a contractor. A well-fitted one is good, a badly fitted one will pool and leak and damage your house.

BubblesBuddy · 13/08/2019 19:18

Both Spinnaret’s pictures have screens. The one on the right clearly has a shower tray. Low profile and very nice but not a wet room! I have similar in a large en suite but it’s not a wet room. I like the plain glass with a low profile shower tray. Walk in works best for us. We have hard water and a water softener! Easy to keep the glass clean.
