How to deal with black mould creeping along sealant

We had to replace a shower screen a couple of years ago and now have that ruddy nasty black, I assume mould, creeping along under the sealant of both the shower tray and the screen. How do I sort this out? Do I have to remove all of the sealant the whole way round (eek) or can I cut it off and redo it just a section? Would that join up ok?

I am not a builder etc but have over the years attacked black mould in bathroom with wonderfully messy techniques.
1 - I used a wallpaper steamer and an old toothbrush on the stuff. Horrid hot sweaty job but really knocked it back. I learnt to makes sure the dirty condensed water ran off the joint into the bath, to wear a rubber glove as hot water burns and that direct steam melts the bristles on my scrubbing toothbrush!!!!!!!
2 - Using a craft knife (like a Stanly knife) I cut out the mouldy sealant very carefully then washed it out with mould killing stuff from a B&Q type place. When dry I filled the gaps I’d created with mould resistant bathroom mastic and then with a wet finger smoothed it down into the joints I was sealing up. I also found that mastic is incredibly sticky. Hands, fabric or hair, it is all fair game to the wretched stuff. Make sure you have lots of kitchen paper, a bin bag and water available when using it to keep the sticky stuff contained.

You say would it join up? I have no idea but would assume that new mastic would always be brighter and whiter than the old. On the good side mastic is so sticky I am sure (with absolutely no basis for assumption) you could get a decent seal between new & old.
I hope this helps.

dip cotton wool in bleach....leave it on the mouldy sections overnight...or do loads of them covering the whole seal if it is all mouldy. rinse off in the morning.

it's the least Labour intensive solution but not so environmental using bleach. Also if it is too mouldy there might not be much sealant left in which case yeah....all needs cutting out and redoing which is a job I hate. I paid someone 65 quid to do it recently....he did a good job so should last a year or two.

always wipe down after a shower too and ventilated the room as much as you can to delay it returning.

I bought some HG Mould Spray to deal with large amounts of mould throughout our shitty rented house. I recently tried it on the sealant round our bath and shower where it had gone black and it worked really well. Think I bought it online for about £5.

HG mould spray is a GAME CHANGER. Forget everything else and just get this.

Another vote for HG mould spray, I've used it and the mould hasn't come back.

MozzchopsThirty · 10/08/2019 19:41

HG spray
It's amazing stuff
Gets all the black & mould off everything

If the sealant is coming away from the edges a little then yes it needs cutting out and replacing. It's a few hours work and not fun, but easy to do yourself.

Paint bleach over it and leave it. After an hour or so, the mould turns orange, abd and after a few hourams, it'll have completely disappeared.

Sorry, predictive text!... And after afew hours

Astonish mould spray is amazing and can be bought on Ebay for less than a fiver. We had some horrible areas of mould on the edges of windows and walls as well as in seals. After a couple of goes it disappeared completely. I cant belive all the times we used bleach spray and bleachy water. I shouldnt have bothered and just bought this!
