Didn't love the house but love the location... Thoughts?

For the size of the rooms and having to eat in the kitchen I believe the house is overpriced. What's worth it is the estate it's in. All very well kept houses with a wonderful park.just behind it.

We can live in it long term (which is what matters) but definitely think it's on the small side. Would a cheeky offer be worth it? (Thinking £215k. Vendors have found a house, so they're eager to move).

We'll take some measurements this evening and take it from there. If things go well we could eventually move to bigger ones on the same road in 5 years or so.

Just because the neighbour is a music producer doesn't mean he'll be happy listening to endless hours of amateur concerts or your kids practicing their lessons!

I would look for a more remote house.

Easilyflattered · 09/08/2019 17:00

We bought a meh house in the perfect location. It's frustrating having to put up with horrible bathrooms etc whilst saving, but the great village school, safe atmosphere and easy commutes are a dream after the last house.

My husband was really insistent that this house was a better buy than a completely renovated house ten miles up the road, and I have to admit he was right.

Neolara · 09/08/2019 17:05

I'd extend along back of house, big doors to open out onto garden. Could be lovely.

SabaliSabali · 09/08/2019 17:21

I’ve just put an offer in for a house that is ok but in an amazing location. It’s got another offer and more viewings so really hope it doesn’t get into a bidding war as it’s already overpriced given what other properties have sold for on the same row recently. But the location! It would be an incredible lifestyle change for us.

Rainbowhairdontcare · 09/08/2019 17:47

The garden is smallish, so I don't know if an extension would add value or not. Just knowing that I can leave my DC run free and watch them from my window would be such a blessing. Plenty of fields for our dog to run free.

It reminded me of my childhood a very happy one indeed and that is priceless.

Fields for the dog? Do you know there is public access? I know you can't choose your neighbours but while they might be used to music noise, they might also be highly sensitised to it. At least it's only attached to their garage or conversion, not their main living room.

I like the house actually but it sounds like the wrong time in your lives to be compromising on space. Especially when you need a piano room!

Rainbowhairdontcare · 09/08/2019 18:11

There is public access indeed. We stayed for a bit at the park/field area and saw plenty of dogs running free.

What’s your reason for moving?

We have said we don’t want to go smaller than what we’ve already got just fir the sake of the area.

And who said anything about amateur. The OP & her dh are in/were in the professional music industry by the sound of what she said.

Rainbowhairdontcare · 09/08/2019 19:35

@Comefromaway thank you :) I'm a classically trained piano player and my DH is an accomplished guitar player. Between us we have a couple of synths, the piano, a drum kit and four guitars. To answer the question, were currently renting but after crunching some number we realised we were just wasting money away. A four bed is about £1400 in rent, our mortgage would be £920.

OP did. She said she works in an online music distribution company and that her husband was in a band 20 years ago. The reply above just reinforces their amateur status.

Comefromaway · 09/08/2019 21:31

That’s not amateur (the dh could probably be said to be retired).

Rainbowhairdontcare · 10/08/2019 06:10

You could call us amateur because we don't make money out of our own music, but that's very different from playing some cacophony... We mostly play jazz (which I agree is not to everyone's taste). But I digress.

I'm.vieiwng another house in a neighbouring development. Cheaper, but it does need an extension built (eventually).

Has already been reduced so hopeful they'll take even less £££>

I found this property on the Rightmove Android app and wanted you to see it: www.rightmove.co.uk/s6p/56184060

How about this one?

FermatsTheorem · 10/08/2019 15:00

The garden is gorgeous - but I'd be checking very carefully for outline planning permission on those fields out the back. You could find your beautiful country view replaced with a sea of new-builds in a year or two.

The walking-through-the-sitting-room would get me down, I think. I turned down an otherwise perfect house partly because the sitting room was so pokey that if I was honest with myself I'd have been depressed having to live with it.

gnomeisland · 10/08/2019 15:06

I always wondered what it would be like to find a thread that is about someone you know......

Rainbowhairdontcare · 10/08/2019 15:07

@FermatsTheorem I'm with you there. The living room is pokey! Not enough room for the baby to play (playroom will be turned to music room). Plus I don't like eating in the kitchen.

As much as I like the area maybe it's wiser to wait for another bigger (or better layout) house.

OP posts:
DillyDilly · 10/08/2019 20:19

From everything you’ve written, the house isn’t for you - rooms too small for what you want them to do.

What, the reply that she is a classically trained pianist and he is an accomplished guitarist?
Not that OP is likely to make a decision based on your snippy comments but who are you, André Rieu?

Rainbowhairdontcare · 11/08/2019 02:55

@DillyDilly yes we haven't completely discarded it but have decided that for our own needs we'll go for size over location. We're viewing a house that's double the size on Monday. Location is far from ideal, but it's big enough that we can stay there forever, of utter important in case Brexit gives us negative equity.
