Would you buy a house that's close to a main line electric pylon?

It doesn't go directly above the house I'm looking it, but does go past one 10 doors down.

I've heard within 200m would cause electro magnetic fields that some think could be harmful.

Put you off or not? J worry all it takes is one report and your house value falls.

I can see a pylon from my lounge window, you get used to it. I would find it more offensive living opposite shops or a bus stop, each to their own I suppose. Only on drizzly damp days can you hear any noise.

confusedjuly2019 · 06/08/2019 21:26

No

wowfudge · 06/08/2019 21:31

Anecdotal evidence is one thing. Scientific research is another thing altogether. Have a read of this

wowfudge · 06/08/2019 21:32

They're bloody ugly though, so it would depend on whether I could see it from the house.

bebeboeuf · 06/08/2019 21:52

Wowfudge - that link is enough information to show there is an agreed correlation of health issues around pylons

wowfudge · 06/08/2019 22:04

bebe - re-read it. It's says there could be/may be, etc. It's certainly not clear cut. If you are convinced there is, nothing I or anyone else can say or do will change your mind. Your mobile phone's probably more harmful.

MondeoFan · 06/08/2019 22:06

No def not even if it was cheap

bebeboeuf · 06/08/2019 22:09

It says there may be and then goes on to agree about the childhood leukaemia correlation though

wowfudge · 06/08/2019 22:19

Er, no it doesn't, "The overall evidence, however, is not strong enough to draw a firm conclusion that magnetic fields cause childhood leukaemia."

RagingWhoreBag · 06/08/2019 22:25

I considered buying a house almost under a pylon a few years ago but every time I went under it and my hair stood on end I just thought ‘nope’! If it’s doing that to my hair, what’s it doing to the rest of me?!

There may not be any concrete evidence either way, but with so many other houses out there to choose from, why would you?

What is?

bebeboeuf · 06/08/2019 22:32

It’s been discussed in parliament a lot recently too.
There’s a lot of studies on it

There is also a huge difference in people who are sensitive to EMF and will be affected more than others

A mobile or home wiring system does not have anywhere near the same level of EMF generated compared to pylons or other major power systems

StarJumpsandaHalf · 06/08/2019 23:03

I wouldn't even view a property if I knew there was a pylon visible from the house or gardens, front, back and sides. No health evidence to debate, I just wouldn't. It's my number one deal breaker and always has been.

wowfudge · 06/08/2019 23:06

bebe that is a screenshot of a website purporting to sell emf protection devices, What do you think they are going to say?

KennDodd · 06/08/2019 23:10

No way.

CaptainJaneway62 · 06/08/2019 23:18

Nope not a chance.

PinkCrayon · 06/08/2019 23:24

No I wouldnt.

johnd2 · 06/08/2019 23:46

For me they are in the same category as graveyards, yes they aren't ideal to look at and they'll put people off, but you'll get a good deal in the mean time!
Main roads in the other hand are actually hazardous to the health.
Remember your house walls and floors are crisscrossed with mains cabling and you probably sleep within a metre of a mains cable. The field decays with inverse square so the house electrics would be way worse than power lines nearby.

089ville · 07/08/2019 00:25

I agree with the busy road, so many live near then and they are definitely known to be dangerous.

Is this a full size pylon? To be fair you can't see it from the house I'm looking at as it's a bit down a hill and they're detached houses in between.

But so many people are living way way closer than this house I'm looking at.

The other house I'm looking at is near a mobile phone mast and other people say 5g is a weapon. Honestly you can't win

There's about 50 houses where I live all under (or used to be!) a pylon line (main). Many have lived there for 30 plus years. Not a problem. We're a close group of neighbours. In all that time only one cancer.

Pylon lines have been removed now! How cool is that? Win win for us!!!!

KittyBaxter · 07/08/2019 00:46

I don’t think it’s quite full size, but plenty big enough. (That’s what she said.)

TwattingDog · 07/08/2019 08:35

That's a 132kv pylon. The lowest line is about 6.5m off the ground.

There is only one pylon bigger than that.

johnd2 · 07/08/2019 09:09

5g doesn't travel far so there need to be masts much closer together, eventually every lamp post will be a mobile phone mast (but then again we are all surrounded by people with mobile phones anyway)
5g isa weapon made me laughter though, sounds like you'll be zapped by a laser!
