Long time lurker on the property thread and am interested in hearing opinions about my proposed kitchen. Please be brutal as we still have time to change things around and we haven’t done this before!
Thank you:)

There’s no image showing?

Never mind, it’s there now.

The big larder cupboards look fab for storage. Have you space for washer/dryer is is that in another room?
Space around the table looks tight, will it get annoying to squeeze between that and the island?

Witchinghour1 · 05/08/2019 18:40

Thank you, glass! Yes, washing machine in another room and I see what you’re saying about space around island. I will have a look at the exact measurement. Also, is there anything missing that you would add/ expect to see?

It's hard to read the little writing but I assume oven is next to fridge freezer? Is that ok these days? I'd map out the space between worktop and island and table can two people get past?
Also is the corner unit a pull out one to maximise space?
Where will bins go?

Toomanycats99 · 05/08/2019 18:47

Do you need an island when you have the table right next to it? It looks a bit tight for space.

Is it going to be a pain having larder doors opening right by the kitchen door?

Thanks, lancslass! The fridge freezer is going to be inbuilt into the left hand tall cupboard to the right as you walk in. The bins are the first low cabinet on the left as you walk in and the corner cabinet is indeed a pull out one. The oven is on the opposite wall to the freezer. Does that sound good? Thank you:)

The patio doors also look very blocked by the table.

PegasusReturns · 05/08/2019 18:48

It's difficult to get a sense of perspective but it looks like you're going to have to walk a good few steps from oven to the nearest work surface. That might be irritating.

Witchinghour1 · 05/08/2019 18:50

That’s a very good point about the doors, too many cats ( sorry, can’t seem to bold names on my phone) and I hadn’t even thought about that! Yes, you’re right! Re island, I’m keen not to have one but might have a lot of dead space? It certainly would be cheaper not to have one! Thank you:)

I like that you've kept full height units all in one corner.
Lack of wall cabinets keeps it looking open as you seem to have plenty of low level storage.
Not keen on the little floating box shelves on either side of the extractor, I would make them wider

I would worry about the kitchen door being opened when someone's at the larder.
Is it possible to hang the door so that it opens into the other room rather than the kitchen?

Bamaluz · 05/08/2019 18:51

I wouldn't have the oven near the doorway, I would have it on the same side as the worktops for safety. I can see why you are grouping all the tall units together though.
You can get a 3 quarter height unit to house the oven so as not to have a full height unit or under counter oven

MrsMoastyToasty · 05/08/2019 18:52

You're going to have to turn a full 180 degrees when you take anything out of the oven , with potentially people coming into the kitchen through the nearest door at the same time.
What's the tube thing by the sink?

Bamaluz · 05/08/2019 18:53

Is it a microwave near the door, not the oven, I can't tell?

Auntpetunia2015 · 05/08/2019 18:54

So to put anything down out of the oven you’ve got the possibility of people walking in and out. The nearest work top is the island. Could be difficult when you’ve got something heavy or hotter than you expected. Why have an island and a table seem excessive. One or the other unless there is more room than there looks.

PegasusReturns · 05/08/2019 18:55

Also you lose a lot of space without high cabinets. I'd be worried you don't have enough storage.

We've now got 10x80cm top opening cabinets stacked 2 high and all the space I thought would be empty is full!

tomboytown · 05/08/2019 18:55

What’s the measurements of the room?

LizzieMacQueen · 05/08/2019 18:56

Agree with PP. you'll want to easily take something hot out of oven and lay it down without risk of someone walking into the kitchen. I'd put the oven in the island unit.

Are you having sockets (lots of them) on your island?

Other obvious one is sink near the dishwasher.

I also have a separate quooker tap right next to the hob so I can fill pans for pasta easily.

Reallybadidea · 05/08/2019 19:00

We have quite a similar design in a slightly longer room. I think it will be a bit cramped with both a table and an island. I regret our kitchen island tbh, we never ever sit at it to eat and wish I'd had the table closer toward the kitchen end so that there would be room for a full sofa. We have 1 armchair in the kitchen, we all love sitting in it and squabble bitterly over it Grin

tomboytown · 05/08/2019 19:01

I think my kitchen is similar size. I’ve got ceiling height units all the way along and an island
If you’re not dead set on the island, I’d think about a peninsular with stools

wowfudge · 05/08/2019 19:03

Lost my post so will try to remember what I put.

The tall cabs and oven in particular are too close to the door to the room. Awkward and potentially dangerous. Nowhere to put down something hot straight out of the oven.

I'd lose the armchair, put some built in seating with storage under in the corner by that window instead and move the table into the corner more. This will make it easier to get to the glass doors and the garden. At the garden end of the wall with the chimney breast, you can then put tall shallow units in, maybe with some open shelves above?

Turning the island round 90 degrees would mean the pan drawers would be opposite the sink and dishwasher and that would make putting things away easier. Consider changing the length and depth of the island. Do you need seating at the island with the table so close?

notso · 05/08/2019 19:03

It doesn't seem to flow very well. You don't appear to have things to hand for cooking and prepping food.

It looks like the tall cupboards will block your doorway.

I think I'd have a peninsula rather than an island. It looks like too many narrow gaps to negotiate.
