IKEA kitchen installation cost

We have a preliminary IKEA plan for two walls of an area 3mx3m.

Got a quote from the fitter recommended by our builder. It comes up to about £3k+VAT.

Right now it appears we are behind for booking installation. This guy and another company we tried to reach both wouldn't be available till October.

We are in North London. Just wonder if it's worth to get a second quote elsewhere risking losing the slot with this fitter, or go ahead to book with him

Is £3k reasonal for the units in such a small kitchen?

Thank you!

Was the IKEA fitting quote much more? I am considering having an IKEA kitchen myself so being nosy!

Sounds expensive to me. Not in London but had quite a large Ikea kitchen fitted for £1k - my other quote was £3k. The fitter did a good job - not perfect (we had a couple of bespoke bits done which I think were rushed a bit) but good enough. The difference in cost paid for most of the granite worktop which looks fabulous. Both fitters had a wait of about 10 weeks mind. Many kitchen fitters don’t like fitting Ikea kitchens and price accordingly

I'd certainly get another quote or two. Presumably that includes the cost of building the units? We kept the cost down by building them ourselves so that it was just a matter of fitting the units to the walls, worktop etc. It helped that I love putting ikea furniture together!

Try www.rh-homesolutions.co.uk as I know they have some time right now and they do really good jobs.

Ah, forgot to say we built all our kitchen units and our higher quote was on that basis! We had about two trips to Ikea for base units and corner units, built those up and had one delivery for the full height units and everything else just before install day.

My kitchen is 4m x 4.5m plus an island and I was originally planning on getting the units from DIY Kitchens. Quoted £2k by a fitter who came highly recommended locally which is more or less what I was expecting.

Ended upmkrfering a bespoke solid wood kitchen instead for not much more than the DIY Kitchens units. Their recommended fitter quoted a shade over £1k for fitting.

All units are fully built with doors hung (much the same as DIY) but I guess he's used to fitting them, knows everything will turn up (hopefully), and knows that the measurements are exact and then kitchen built to suit and he therefore doesn't have to add much of a contingency for delays.

It arrives on Monday.

It arrives on Monday so hoping that the delivery and fitting is as good as the rest of the experience so far.

We paid £950 for a guy to fit our kitchen but the units were built at the factory so all he had to do was install everything. He took 3 days. Ikea around £2000/3000 for their fitting which seemed ridiculous since they kitchen was cheap.

We had an Ikea kitchen installed last month. It looks great, however I wouldn't touch their fitters again with a barge pole.

We paid £1300 for fitting. The kitchen arrived incomplete and DP had to make many trips over to the store to collect the extra bits.

They plumbed our hot and cold tap in the wrong way round and installed a waste pipe incorrectly, so the kitchen flooded the first time we used the washing machine.

They stole screwdrivers from DP's set, and then one went AWOL with our door key for 3 days and no-one could get hold of him.

I've been passed from pillar to post for the past month trying to complain to someone, have ended up emailing their CEO today.

Kitchen looks great but the stress is not worth it!

Hubkitty1184, thanks for sharing the experience with them. I've seem numerous posts at Mumsnet about the dreadful experience with IKEA's fitting partner. I intend to avoid them if I could find an independent reliable local fitter.

Interestingly, during our last two IKEA kitchen planning appointments, we were told IKEA is shifting the fitting contract with someone else. We don't know who as yet, but apparently will be someone who solely does IKEA fitting services. They haven't started yet, still negotiating. And this does make wonder if IKEA has been aware of all the complaints and tries to improve the situation.

Sorry, typo. Meant to say"Hello" in the beginning.

And glad you like your Kitchen and the stressful bits have come to an end.

@BingBo I heard that too, via the poor Ikea worker who ended up dropping missing kitchen bits to us on his way home.

I'm trying to get some, if not all of my installation fee refunded as I want to change the locks and bring in a proper plumber to make good their mess Confused
