Box room experience

Hi newbie here sorry.
We're currently in the process of trying to move, we rent and have been unhappy with our house for 6 years it's too small for our now family of four, too old with too many issues it's not a home anymore. Anyway because of our lack of space, storage and other things we've gone into house Hunting with so many requirements... However we are willing to compromise on parts to accommodate etc so here's the compromise in question.
We're viewing a house tomorrow BUT it has a box room.. My son (4) would get this room as he will not play upstairs in his room on his own, we've tried and he may play for what ten mins max once in a while he just doesn't like it so I feel like he wouldn't need a big room but I need other people's in puts and experience. With a child who has never willingly played in their room alone can I compromise on the three bed with three good rooms to a three bed an two good rooms or will I totally regret it.
Thanks

Children grow quickly. Mind you, mine currently share a room but it's big and there's plenty of space for them both.

I would say a box room is doable but not ideal.

Millions of children live perfectly happily in box rooms. He’ll be fine.

I shared throughout childhood & teenage years - a box room to myself would have been amazing! He’ll be absolutely fine.

A bunk bed would be fine I’d think! Storage underneath and frees up floor space
My friend has the most gorgeous box room it was barely wider than a single bed but it was so cosy. She still talks so fondly of it. I was jealous of it and I had a big room. It’s what you do with the space

Is there room to expand later if you wish?
Convert the loft maybe when he's older?

MangoesAreMyFavourite OP says she rents.

OP - nothing wrong with a box room. Plenty of kids have to share. If your DS shoots up to 6'7" in his teens, you might have to find a bigger place, but that's 10 years away. Might depend on the age of your other DC though - DH had a larger room and his brother had the box room, but when DH went to uni they swapped.

Can you expand the boxroom in any way.

The house I grew up in had a box room and the biggest room had a cupboard which used the space above the stairs. and my dad blocked that up in their room and opened in up in the box room to make wardrobe and storage cupboard so my brother only needed a 'bed' in the main part of the room.

There are box rooms and there are box rooms.
When viewing houses last year I had to lie on the floor in a couple of them and they would not take a single bed just to check.
I think you need something at least 8 ft x 10 ft, children grow up quickly and then argue about who has the biggest room.
