Upstairs utility.. good or bad idea?!

In the very early stages for planning our extension, going upstairs and a single story out the back.

We plan to take the kitchen out the back to create a large kitchen/diner with lots of natural light either with a row of velux windows or an orangery style roof. In order to make this dream space I have in my head....it would leave no room for a utility without looking odd and we could easily fit this in the upstairs plan.

Would it put people off buying in future?

A laundry room upstairs could work (although might be a pain to carry heavy wet loads downstairs to hang outside).

If you're going to have a dryer, an upstairs utility would be wonderful. I would be sure to have a drain installed in the floor in case the washing machine floods.

A friend of mine who had a kitchen extension has put her washing machine and tumble drier in a built in cupboard in one of the upstairs bathrooms.

In the US it’s standard to have the utility (washer/dryer) upstairs I’ve always noticed that when watching home improvement shows! I think it would be absolutely fine- the only time it would be a pain is carrying clothes outside to dry but only the same as carrying them all down and back upstairs when washing every time!

I would love an upstairs laundry room! We keep thinking about how to fit one in but it’s not really feasible.

Maybe do it in such a way that it could be easily converted into extra bedroom/bathroom/useful space if you’re thinking about selling on in the near future.
