Cheeky offer

We have put our house up for sale with an online estate agent and after a few viewings we have had an offer tonight.
Our house is up for £500k and they offered at £242k Shock
Has anyone else had this sort of ridiculous offer made or is it because it's easy to make an offer when behind a computer screen?
We're really confused by it although we did also laugh. Our house is very fairly priced so we know it's nothing to do with the actual property/area Hmm

Have they actually viewed the property?

I know purple bricks don't even have the option for a potential buyer to even make any online enquiries about a property without first arranging a viewing and/or putting an offer in.

Which if you're buying from a distance isn't useful as you may require info which would rule out wasting your time travelling to view a property.

I wouldn’t bother to respond to that offer.

Cheeky doesn’t come near to it.

A bit different but we sold our business (coffee shop) a few years ago as we were emigrating. It was very successful and profitable. Within the first week on the market Cafe Nero made an offer of £0 for it. Yes, £0. We have since learned part of their business model involves buying up failing businesses in good areas and offering them a way out of the confines of their lease by offering to take it off their hands for free. We had an offer well over asking price within 6 weeks, and the business is still successfully running now. Cheeky buggers!

I wouldn't even respond. It's a weird time for the housing market and I've had some very low offers despite the identical house a couple of doors down going for the asking price just before mine went on the market. There's talk of a 30% drop in house prices and I think it brings the chancers out of the woodwork who think sellers are desperate. Nope, I'm not too bothered if I sell or not so they can jog on.

What a random amount. I am all for putting in cheeky offers but that isnt cheeky its ridiculous! I would counter offer at 499k (I would have to see if they came back with an improved offer just out of curiosity)
Are you going to accept the offer?Grin

DreamingofSunshine · 30/07/2019 07:03

Maybe it was a typo?

CruellaFeinberg · 30/07/2019 07:06

I'd counter with 742k fuckers

Pipandmum · 30/07/2019 07:07

Nothing to do with your offer situation but I hesitate to even look at a house thru an online agent my experience with them has been universally awful (I flip houses).

hadthesnip2 · 30/07/2019 07:13

Thats not cheeky just plain weird. I'd be tempted to reply saying are we talking about the same house or is it a typo.

Yeahyeahyeahyeeeeah · 30/07/2019 07:46

Our neighbours once had a letter through the door along the lines of ‘we want to move to the area, we are cash buyers, we love this road, contact us if you are interested’. After contacting the couple they came and viewed, came back again, yes they loved it etc etc. The house was worth c. 800/850k and they offered.... £450k.

What a waste of time. Some people aren’t cheeky, they are just deluded. Perhaps it comes from a place of ‘these ridiculous house prices, I’m not paying that’, but a cheeky offer might be 20% under, not half!

Good suggestion Cruella !
