Oh please help me with my worktop again

I’m useless. I have ordered a matt white handleless kitchen from DIY kitchens and was so relieved to have made that choice...but now I am TOTALLY STUCK for worktops and floors and everything. I have just about got the budget for quartz worktops and was thinking of a pale grey concrete look....but the kitchen is north facing and I’m worried it will suck in all the light like some kind of Dementor. But the sparkly ones are all so....sparkly. And the non-sparkly grey ones look like the skanky laminate I have just merrily waved off in the skip. And I have lived in about a million rental properties and the mid-greys all look like the standard worktop put into a BTL property. And I painted this whole house grey when we moved in and have FINALLY got rid of it so I have a bit of anxiety about grey again.

I wish I had gone for coloured units so I could have a white worktop....but I didn’t.

I want to love my worktop. Other people love theirs. I have spent MANY HOURS in showrooms looking at near-identical squares of quartz. Pinterest is failing me. Please help!!

White kitchen and wood work tops for me.

Everyone's taste is different!

Undervaluedandsad · 28/07/2019 17:07

I like wood as well.

Pipandmum · 28/07/2019 17:09

Go for composite in a white with grey marble pattern. That’s what I have and it looks great.

One question, do you want 'fashionable' or trendy colours, or a colour palette that you love , regardless of what is currently popular? It makes quite a difference.

ReeReeR · 28/07/2019 17:10

I’m planning to get matte white cupboards, no handles, and want wood worktop and wooden floor throughout downstairs

friskybivalves · 28/07/2019 17:11

Can you look at quartzite instead? Even harder than granite and comes in more colours than your standard quartz.

ReeReeR · 28/07/2019 17:12

But not sure what colour tiles to have

Maybe green or turquoise

CendrillonSings · 28/07/2019 17:13

Calacatta would be perfect for you - have a look at google images.

minipie · 28/07/2019 18:35

I’d go with either a white marble look like this:

www.brachot.com/en/catalog/csbcav

or the inverse, grey marble with white veins:

www.brachot.com/en/catalog/cspgre

Or even black marble with white veins but only if you want a really dramatic contrast.

minipie · 28/07/2019 18:38

For the floor I’d go with wood look LVT if you don’t have underfloor heating or wood look tiles if you do. Or even actual wood 😁 if you don’t mind some scratches and stains.

Stainless steel if you want low contrast , copper for high contrast.

BasiliskStare · 28/07/2019 19:38

I would go for stainless steel

PersisFord · 28/07/2019 19:46

Guys thanks! There was a small emergency and I’ve only just got back

See, I would love stainless steel but it’s too clinical for my husband. He would love wood but I know we wouldn’t look after it and it would be nasty.

Wood look tiles is prob what we will have, do you have any recommendations? We don’t have underfloor heating but I like cold tiles!

I’m not bothered at all by quartzite vs quartz as I didn’t know there was any difference, so happy to consider either!

Whether I want something I like or something trendy is a difficult question. I would say something I like...but when I look at kitchen pictures I feel like a lot are very dated. So I find it hard to separate the two.

Would a white marble-look worktop be ok with white units?

We've gone for a very thin floating brushed stainless steel on matt white handleless. It looks and feels completely different from the industrial shiny steel you might be thinking of. Maybe worth a look.

We took Porcelanosa wood look tiles for the floor. They are totally beautiful and are constantly mistaken for real wood by visitors but can be cleaned very easily. We do have underfloor heating so they are not cold to us.

Daphnesmate · 28/07/2019 21:01

Watching this thread with interest because I too am having a matt white handless kitchen installed and I was looking for a grey work top (but slate grey) in quartz but like you I have a north facing kitchen. Please let me know what you decide upon.

PersisFord · 28/07/2019 21:03

Could you send a photo or a link Jojo please? Sounds pretty....

We've just fitted the Luca in matt white, love it. Floor is the original sandstone flags, the worktop's going to be full stave oak effect laminate.

Benjispruce · 28/07/2019 21:21

My friend has off white handless with same colour quartz. It actually looks great because they have a real wood floor and lots of wood accessories so that warms it up.

PersisFord · 28/07/2019 21:31

So many options!!!!!!

Glad you like the Luca though 👍🏼

I have a white kitchen (with handles though) and turn a white quartz worktop. It's the Cosmo sparkle one. I'm not a sparkle type of person but I actually love it. It makes the counter more pale grey. We then have accents of blue in furnishings. We also have white wall - a little brave with a 4 year old and a 1 year old! I'll try and post a pic but I usually fail x

ReeReeR · 28/07/2019 21:44

I want to see Jemma that sounds lovely!

PersisFord · 28/07/2019 21:48

Yes photo please!!!

I am surreptitiously looking at stainless steel again.....

I'll try again. It always says 'success' but never actually posts. Any tips?
