I have ruined my beautiful new hall carpet. Can it be patched?

I feel such a total idiot and am SO fucked off with myself.
I was cleaning the porch tiles and the cleaner seeped through and has dissolved the carpet.
It can't be hidden with a rug as one wouldn't fit under the door.

I bought a remnant of the same carpet last night but I don't know if it's possible to patch it, or if it will look stupid.

Honestly, I could cry.

A good carpet fitter should be able to make an invisible patch.
Failing that insert some choir matting to look like a door mat.

I spilt dark paint on a pale carpet. I was really annoyed with myself. But I managed to get it out with Dr Beckmans carpet cleaner. I suppose it it depends on what was in the step cleaner.

Worth a try patching it. Use a semi circular patch as curved lines blend in better than straight ones.

I second getting a carpet fitter to do it; it will be almost invisible.

(I feel your pain though; my son spread an entire pot of zinc and castor oil cream on the carpet by the front door. It had been down less than a fortnight. I bought a large rug...)

Whatever were you using to clean the porch that dissolved the carpet though?

Movinghouseatlast · 23/07/2019 12:24

I was using ceramic tile restorer as they were in a bad state- we have just moved in and the house needs a lot of work. I will never use it again that's for sure! It worked very well on the tiles...

Sorry I miss read it. I didn't realise it had dissolved.
Actually I think the heat has dissolved my brain

As Bee above said, a carpet fitter could probably slice out a strip and invisibly replace it. It will only show if the replacement carpet is a different shade or the pile is more raised etc.

SwedishEdith · 23/07/2019 13:58

What's the name of the tile cleaner?

Sorry about your carpet.

Movinghouseatlast · 24/07/2019 10:21

It is Linofin Ceramic Tile Restorer.

Get a carpet fitter to cut in a piece of carpet and you will really struggle to see it. We had a similar thing happen with a newly fitted carpet a few years back, I was really upset too. That what we did and it was fine. Good luck OP.
