Positive stories of house moves

I’ve only moved house once and it was fairly easy. But just bought in order to get a driveway and garden, old house. Keep reading that movin* house is incredibly stressful.

I think I’d like som3 reassurance that it’s not that bad really.

Moving is stressful but if you are super organised it won't be too bad.
Just plan for every eventuality and make lots of lists (and oh, don't go to the solicitors in your slippers like I did).

Prepare for the worst and you won't be disappointed

I've recently moved and didn't find it stressful. The paperwork up until exchange was stressful due to the fact that any party can pull out at any point. But once exchanged it was a matter of packing then getting a removal company to do the heavy lifting. I say this as someone who is the least organised person. We were still packing the last bits as the removal men were lugging boxes out.

Once in we did live around boxes for longer than acceptable but if you are someone who can deal with that then it's not a problem.

Also, the bare minimum you should do is label boxes.

It depends on which bits you find stressful tbh. If everything goes smoothly and you have great estate agents and solicitors and mortgage advisors who work together/communicate well then the paperwork will be fine, so long as you don't expect anything to be done quickly! Expected timescale from offer being accepted to completion if all goes smoothly is 8-12 weeks.

As for the actual moving part, as PP said, get organised early. Empty your loft and pack the garage before anything else as these are what take most time. Make a list of everything thats in each box, then write in big black letters where the box needs to go and and overall description if needed. This will help you immensely when unpacking!

I would advise paying for a removal firm - they make the whole shifting of furniture so simple and do it without damaging the old house, the new house or their own limbs!!

Good luck!!!

One final thing - don't expect all the boxes you've carefully labelled to end up in the right room - you may end up with Kitchen boxes in Bedrooms, bedroom boxes in the garage and all sorts! The removals people can lift way more than us mere mortals and carry several in one go if they can so don't always read the labels properly.
