Thinking of moving to Penge

We are having to move from south west London, and have been looking around the south east London area. Penge seems to tick a lot of boxes for us on paper: near decent green spaces, good transport links to London, fairly diverse.

What do people think who live there? I think at the moment we are gravitating towards one of the east/west stations.

I live in Crystal Palace and the only part of Penge I would consider is the area around the Alexandra Cottages, Victorian cottages where there is a nice community. Sydenham or Beckenham nicer than the rest of Penge..

I live inbetween Clock house and Kent House and love the area- Penge for the useful shops, Beckenham for the independents and restaurants and bars. Some beautiful houses in the roads off the High Street.

Great pubs - the Goldsmiths and Alexandria. There is a local food assembly, a Jumble Trail , Easter egg Hunts, Penge day and Penge Festival - join 'Penge Tourist Board' on facebook to get a better feel of the place.

It is a great Community - so the High Street is a bit shabby but it has a Costa now so anything is possible.

Never felt unsafe at night but it is London so of course you still need your wits about you.
Mustn't forget Friends of Flavours, best little Italian in London!
