Smallest Possible width for a double sink?

I can definitely see the attraction of a bathroom with a double sink - we have a downstairs shower and loo but there's only one bathroom upstairs which we all use in the morning. Two sinks would be great, but we are managing OK with one.

All the double-sink units I can find seem to be a minimum of 1200mm - more typically at least 1450mm - but the space the sink has to go in can't really be any wider than 1000mm - possibly 1100mm at a squeeze but anyone standing at the left hand sink would be hit on the elbow by the opening door so not ideal.

Should I try to squeeze in two sinks regardless of cramped elbow-room - which I could achieve by buying two undermount sinks each about 45cm wide and making my own "custom" unit - or should I just admit the bathroom is too small for two sinks and just have the one?

I think 1 big sink feels far more luxurious than 2 poky ones. If you can't buy a unit small enough, I would take that as a good steer that there is not space.

A good compromise might be a trough style sink - they are 1000mm long, just one sink but two tap holes. So each person gets to control their own tap albeit they share the sink itself.

Duravit Vero is an example

This ikea one is 1030mm - looks like you can get some units to fit the sink as well

@Kittenance we have the ceramic IKEA one laburnumtree has posted - with the drawers in the second picture (bit in a different colour). We have all our clean towels in the bottom drawer - the top drawer doesn't have as much storage because of clearance of the basins.

I agree with minipie - get one big sink, but have two separate taps. That would give you the same effect, would be more space efficient, and would look really great.
