Do you have an ISA with a debit card?

Most solicitors will ask for a bank transfer.

There's usually a limit on the amount of a debit card transaction but you can get a bank draft (it is similar to a cheque). Ask your solicitor who to make it payable to and go to your local branch.

I doubt it, but it will depend on the amount and also your solicitor’s requirements. When I worked as a property lawyer we needed bank transfers - we had no way to accept or process a card payment.

First of all won’t your debit card take from your current account not you ISA ? Second Card payments are a nightmare and there are all sorts o security checks over £5k I think. My financial adviser told me that the easiest way is still cheque (if you have/ can find a chequebook) ..but of course then you have to wait for that to clear unlike the bank transfer.

ISAs can't be accessed by a debit card. you need to withdraw the money in another form. Why do you think you can access and ISA with a debit card which is surely linked to your current account?

Toddlerteaplease · 10/07/2019 12:08

I was going to transfer the funds from the isa to my current account!

Is this for the purchase of a property?

Within the past couple of weeks I paid a deposit using internet banking from my account to my solicitor's account. I then had to get evidence from the bank showing where the money came from (my account) and went to (the solicitor's account). The bank simply printed a statement for me the day after the transfer.

NoSquirrels · 10/07/2019 12:19

Just ask your solicitor. But it’s probably going to be a bank transfer.

cstaff · 10/07/2019 12:49

No solicitors' office that I know would have the facility to accept a bank card - the will of course accept and electronic transfer though.

LoubyLou1234 · 10/07/2019 12:55

We put our deposit all in one account and then did a bank transfer. Easy.

well you should have said!

In either case, sols don't usually accept card payments like that or for large transactions. You need a banker's draft .

I've closed my Help to buy isa snd put it in one account and will pay by back transfer.
