Frigging low energy lightbulb fittings

Fairly new flat has these, none of our shades fit as the fitting is too fat so the shade ring won't go over them. Am I going to have to get the fittings changed? Also, why do this? Why put fittings in that don't match UK shades?

Can't you take out the bulb, put the shade on and replace the bulb?

But you have to put the ring in between the two bits of the fitting. And I can't get the ring to go over it because it's too fat. It's not the bulb that's the issue but the fitting.

When I lived in a new build until recently I had to basically buy shades that had the adjustable ring that you can remove.

It's annoying but the cost difference is remarkable. I suggest you finding out what type of bulbs you need now so that you can have a couple ready if/when needed

Can you post a pic OP I can't quite get what you mean.

The cost difference means buying new frigging shades! It's not as though you can buy anything but bloody low energy now anyway so I can't see the point. And even if you do have to make the fittings low energy only, why make them of a size that standard UK shades don't fit?! It's just stupid.

Sashh, it's celing lights. So you've got the wire coming down and a fitting at the end. There are two white bits one on top of the other, you unscrew the bottom one, put the lightshade ring on and then screw the bottom back in again. Except I can't, because the fitting is too wide so the ring won't go over it.

We changed our fittings. Life is so much easier now. I used to get so frustrated that the hall light and landing light were energy saving when in those areas you want the light coming on full immediately due to stairs and other trip hazards.

OK I think I have got you now, is it like the pic? You want to put the ring shade where the arrow 1 is?

I 'solved' this by putting the ring where I have put arrow 2 on the pic.

Sorry if this isn't what you meant. You can get various rings in different sizes and they are less than £1.

I think perhaps you have got non-standard fittings.

Most energy-saving lamps are one-piece and include the electronics and the tube or led components.

At one time, a two-part method was used where the electronics were semi-permanent wired in, and the "bulb" plugged in with pins. These can be replaced with standard lamp holders.

Show us a photo of your lamp pendants please.
