How would you furnish this living room? I will attach a screenshot showing the floorplan, then another attempting to show what it is like now. Just wondered if anyone had a better idea!

Sorry, that is really messy! It was harder than I thought to do!

If possible, I'd block up the door to the kitchen to gain that entire wall space.

Do you need a big table for family gatherings? What is that at the very top? A window?

What type of bay window do you have, ie how much wall is there between the window sill and the floor? I have a relative with a bay window and they had a sideboard built into their bay window to free up wall space, like this:

The bay window in their second reception room was used as a playroom and they had shelves built into that one to store books and DVDs, like this:

I think because your room isn't purely square/rectangular and has lots of angles the less unnecessary furniture the better as it just ends up swallowing up floor space. I would remove the cabinet beside the sofa and leave that part of the wall empty which also allows the door to the kitchen to open properly.

What sort of sofa do you have? I would be tempted to have a small corner type sofa and lose the armchair to the side of the fireplace. Keep the TV where it is. Losing the chair frees up floor space so you can move freely from the front to the kitchen.

Hi, thanks for the replies! I haven't actually moved in yet- I meant I think this is how the previous owner had the living room set out. I didn't realise I had snipped part of it off- the top end of the living room has a small dining area.
The front bay window is really big, like the size of a porch. I liked the idea of putting a cosy seat there to sit and read in but that may look weird! I was thinking a corner sofa but not sure if it would stick out too much as part of the living room is quite narrow.

Can you put the whole floor plan up? I’d be looking at knocking down walls but I appreciate that’s not what you asked!

I think a cosy seat in the bay would look good - why do you think it would look weird? I would lose the chair by the fireplace.

Small table and chairs near the kitchen door and a desk in the bay window. The kind where you don't have a home computer on top. Not sure about the middle area... tv on wall above fireplace perhaps?

We had a long thin living room with 2 sets of double doors which I hated & we’re now changing😂 but what did work was not pushing furniture to the edges. We eventually zoned it with a sofa jutting out around the telly & a quieter area with a reading seat & drinks cupboard near the double doors. I would experiment to see what works but definitely don’t just put stuff against the walls

I'd be looking at knocking down the kitchen wall and making it open plan, but would need to see the whole floor plan first. Can you show it?
