Moved in. Meter readings and suppliers

Just moved in (or Atleast got keys) to our first home together. It's the first house we've owned so a bit unsure. We took meter readings ASAP. Obviously water supplier is that as only one, but how do we find out previous supplier (do we need to) of gas/electric to give them the meter readings. Or can we choose our own supplier from the go and give them the readings?
Hope you can help. TIA

On your property information form you would have received from your solicitor during the process, the existing gas/ electric suppliers will have been noted.

You must contact the existing suppliers for the property firstly and give them the meter readings, as you have now used energy whilst they are the current supplier so will need to pay them for that.

If you want to change supplier at a later date you can, but you need to setup billing information for what you have used with the existing supplier first.

We've applied to new supplier and assume current supplier will get in touch when previous occupants send their last meter readings to them.

You can just 'move in' with a new supplier. Just make sure you use the meter readings.

If your new supplier is remotely decent they'll have access to the supplier database that shows who currently supplies gas/electricity to a property...that way you can register your move in reads with them to ensure accurate billing.

I highly recommend taking photos of the meter readings - if the previous occupier gives lower readings you have something to back you up.
