Selling house and can’t find the FENSA certs

I’m moving and need to exchange quickly. I can’t find the FENSA certificates for 4 windows and 2 doors replaced in about 2007. Do I need to get replacement FENSA certificates? Is it worth it for windows installed so long ago and out of guarantee. My solicitor isn’t picking up the phone.

The FENSA head office should hold copies - I got a certificate from them years ago. It may well have a digital means of getting a copy these days.

You can buy these online, easily done.

Yep, you can order online:

We couldn’t find ours and they weren’t available online (was done by previous owner).

We were asked to instead provide indemnity insurance but in the end the buyer accepted the cost as we’d already agreed a large price reduction and I simply wasn’t willing to incur costs knowing the reduction was agreed as the windows needed replacing

Solicitor will insist on them.

We bought replacements online for £20. Solicitor wanted indemnity if we didnt uy them online which was about £80 I think

Do they expire after 10-years anyway?

Don't worry too much.

We just sold our house (first ever sale) and in our naivety, didn't realise we'd need to provide FENSA certificates for our new windows and doors.

Transpired the company who fitted them didn't register the work with FENSA (despite their website saying they were FENSA registered), then went into administration.

In the end our solicitor sorted out an indemnity insurance policy which didn't end up costing too much. Better to do that than have to get the work council certified which is the other option.
