Quartz effect laminate

Anyone had this. We had our heart set on white sparkly quartz worktop and budgeted for it (£3.5k) but went to a showroom today and they had a gloss laminate that looked just like quartz. I even checked with the sales person as thought it was an error

So I'm just wondering if anyone had something similar and if it looks ok or if you can tell it's cheaper. Was so surprised by it

Sorry no experience but interested to know what brand the laminate was.
I have been looking for nice laminate and came across Egger cosmic white. Egger is good quality but not many photos online and I haven’t got around to ordering a sample.

It was duropal white sparkle worktop square edge laminate.

If you want the look of stone try a composite worktop such as Earthstone. They are far more hardwearing than laminate. Earthstone can be cut by your fitter like a laminate.

We were going to go with Earthstone until we decided on quartz.

We went with expensive square edge laminate. I think it's important to get the depth right. 20-30mm laminate is more convincing than 38mm in my view but ultimately, yes you can tell. Matt or gloss they do feel more plasticky - it's not a £3.5k worktop. I saved over £2k though, which basically transformed the rest of my house.

Newer composites like Maia etc, that you buy in sections, was essentially the same price as quartz for what we needed.

Ooh, I would love to see your video but have no idea if it is possible to link it here. I have only ever seen links to YouTube on MN but hoping a more tech savvy person comes along with advice.

Thanks for your replies and lots to think about.@LittleRen - our of interest why did you decide to go with quartz in the end over earthstone?

@Ambydex that's what I'm now thinking - we could finish the rest of the house with the savings made on the work top.

The worktop was the one thing we had decided on but now that's got a question mark by it 🙈

We have just had quartz worktops and totally love them.

@rhica I went to look at a particular Quartz and fell in love with it, and we don't want to touch the kitchen again for a while as it's been such hard work, so I want it to be right for us. If you compared the two side by side I really doubt you would tell the difference - Earthstone can even be sanded slightly if you do manage to somehow mark it.

Earthstone has something to do with B&Q, owned by them or something, they currently have an amazing price on the Gemini white - www.diy.com/departments/34mm-gemini-white-stone-effect-bevel-edge-earthstone-worktop-l-3m-d-605mm/263668_BQ.prd
