Google it there are plenty you can get different heights and profiles, some which would suit a modern house, some primed some painted... I often use a square edge with a straight grove running along it about an inch down or so down - looks smart. By taller as short skirtings look cheap to me.

A modern house so probably not a trational Ogee.

I don't like pencil round skirtings in any age of house, they look cheap.

If you are specifying, I think three inch looks too small. Builders like to put in the smallest ones to save money.

Modern skirtings are usually white MDF. It's OK looking if you are going to paint it and it will never get wet. If you want a stained finish it must be wood; preferably selected when you go to the timbermerchant to avoid the knotty ones. Stained boards look better if fixed with brass screws, not nails, and this also makes it easier to remove them undamaged when necessary.

Plain with a chamfered edge would work well in a modern house.
I would say 100-150mm tall.
Make sure they are same thickness as or thinner than the architraves round your doors. If the skirting boards are thicker they will stick out further than the architraves, which looks crap as you see the cut edge.

Try mdf skirting world - I’ve just ordered from them, haven’t received yet but they get good reviews.

I would go minimum 10cm chamfered which is simple but modern.
