When did building regs require ventilation through an extension?

The 1930s house we live in has an extension built around 2001 which passed building regs. On the outside of the extension is some raised decking which is preventing us seeing if there are airbricks in the extension to ventilate the subfloor of the original house.

We have lifted a couple of floorboards and can't see clearly if there is any ventilation through. (We have found about an inch of standing water however! I think this is probably ground water from the recent heavy rain and will monitor it over the next week or two.)

Am I right in assuming there must be vents through the extension if it was built in 2001 for it to have passed building regs? We are about to have new kitchen flooring down but if I need to get channels dug in the floor to vent the original house subfloor, now is the time to do it... :-(

Never mind the regs, if you have a suspended floor then vents are important. If they aren't there then get them added. It's common for things to not be done properly so there's no guarantee what's there is correct. Ours had been ducted under the conservatory but the ducts were full of screed or something, so that explained the rotten floor joists.

Thank you, I know I know ventilation is key. I am pretty sure they should be there (because its so easy to put them in at time of the extension why wouldn't you unless you are a total idiot) and would imagine that they should have been there in order to get signed off in 2001 - I just can't see them and without dismantaling the whole decking I can't really check. Will maybe lift a few more floor boards and see if I can see the start of any channels.

Will some more vents on the side of the house help - I know you really need a through draft but I'd prefer to avoid digging channels in the kitchen floor... :-(

Also going to give homeserve a ring and the water board to get some reassurance on the water under the floorboards - am really hoping its just a high water table...
