Hi
I'm new and so glad to find this board we are due to move into what will be a beautiful 1950s 3 bed semi when weve finished with it!!!
One of the first jobs we want to do is the lounge as that room is not having anything bashed down!! However some crazy person decided to artex the walls!! Its going to contain asbestos due to age...ideally it can be skimmed, BUT went to look again on sunday some of it is so bumpy underneath although a long task it may be worth us removing it first.

I've found a product called xtex that claims to safely removed the damned stuff but wondered if anyone has first hand experience using it? Tia

That sounds like a nightmare! I found this:

I think it would be a very good idea to check the asbestos situation before you do anything. Good luck - it sounds very messy!

It is pretty horrendous looking! The only other option is plasterboard it luckily bil is a plasterer and hes covered some horrific artex but my non professional eye thinks this room is horrendous!!
I've read that thread such mixed reviews isn't it! I think once we're in itll be a case of give it a go eeek. I'm treating it all as if it has asbestos I asked the owner who's been there since it was built when it was done and it's late 70s so saves on getting it tested as we unfortunately know what we are dealing with!!
We are just very fortunate family are all close by and supportive of the project so we have plenty of people to have the kids/ stay at while we/ professionals do it (I'm by no means seeing this through rose tinted glasses it's going to be mad but so worth it to make it how we want it) x
