Neighbour's kitchen extractor fan venting into my house

Hi. Last year our neighbour built a kitchen extension right up to the boundary, leaving a narrow alleyway (probably a metre wide) between our houses. Our kitchen window looks directly onto the alley and it is the only source of ventilation for our kitchen. They set up their kitchen extractor fan to vent into the alley. When we have our kitchen window open, their cooker hood effectively vents their cooking smells directly into our kitchen window, which is pretty annoying when we have our windows open in the summer.

Does anyone know of anything we can buy, like a chimney or something we can fix to the side of their house, to direct the smells upward to disperse more widely rather than sinking straight into our kitchen? We want to remain on good terms but we're on the verge of just taping it up as it was pretty rude to set it up this way when they had built right up to the boundary.

Thanks for any ideas or help!

I f they built to the boundary did they need any sort of party wall agreement?

I would bring it to their attention and suggest that THEY buy an extension chimney to divert the smells

If they have built right up to the boundary and the extractor fan overhangs your land you may be in your rights to tell them to remove it. Our neighbours have done similar but with some sort of stench pipe. Ours doesn't cause any problems as it's vented above roof level but I have told them if I want to build an extension up to my boundary it will be in the way as technically it's on my land [air}

I'd talk to your local building control team at your local council.
