Buying a cob house

Has anyone got any experience of living in a cob house? We've had an offer accepted on a lovely little cottage made of cob and, while we're really excited, I've woken up this morning feeling a bit panicked? Is there anything we should know about cob houses? Can we hammer nails into the walls to hang pictures or the tv (I'm imagining the wall just crumbling away which I'm sure is just silly, right?). I read cob houses were good at keeping a cool temp in hot countries but what does this mean for English winters? Will it be freezing inside? It only has electric heaters at the moment but would installing central heating be harder with the walls being cob?

No idea re the practicalities of hanging pictures or installing heating but from what I recall of the cob building guy on Grand Designs (Grin), he said it was a great insulator. Great at keeping buildings cool in summer and warm in winter.

'All cob needs is a good hat & a good pair of shoes'
Old country builder saying, apparently.
I have waited bloody years to use that.
You're welcome!

Cob is a great building material and definitely can be cosy in winter. I probably wouldn’t try to attach the tv to the wall though.

can you get mortgages on them?

Really miss my little cob cottage, lovely and warm in the winter and cool in the summer.
