Artex ceilings

Please tell me about getting rid of artex ceilings in a house. It was built in 1997 so I know it’ll have to be tested for asbestos. I’m wondering about the costs.

I'd just plaster over it. It's a long slow job to remove safely for what is low levels and currently bound.

Oh I miss read this as 1979... 1997 yes test for asbestos but very unlikely in artex... Gaskets etc far more likely.

You can buy a kit online and sample it yourself - it’s very quick.

I’d be inclined to just plaster over.

Skim over it

And it’s fine to just skim over?

We have recently had some water damage to one of our artex ceilings and have been told that it needs to be boarded and skimmed, but think that it could have just been skimmed if it wasn’t for the damage because that wouldn’t have involved disturbing it. I am not sure how the boarding will work in terms of the coving and light fittings though.

Perfectly fine to skim over it.

happytoday73 · 23/06/2019 20:42

Yep! Bound and safe...

Oblomov19 · 23/06/2019 21:09

Just skim it.

Skim it
