Help me get into this toilet cistern please

Any suggestions? Do I try to get the sliver button off or the whole front panel? Sadly I have no instructions and no idea what the make of the button is.
There is nothing obvious to unclip or move, the panel doesn't move an inch, the silver button doesn't move either.
I am so frustrated. I'm sure it will take 15 seconds once I've figured it out.

What's above it? Can you remove the panel directly above the one with the flush button?

Heymummee · 22/06/2019 15:22

We have a flush like that and you can unscrew it, maybe once you’ve done that you’ll be able to move the panel?

Ours are accessed from the top panel, could you google the brand though to check?

Knitwit99 · 22/06/2019 15:50

Granite worktop all the way round so that's not moving. The button doesn't move. Honestly, it doesn't shift at all. Lots of YouTube suggestions that the panel lifts up or is clipped on at the sides and can be pulled out. Ours doesn't move at all.
The homeowners before us did lots of DIY budge jobs and I'm beginning to suspect it's been glued on or something stupid. I wouldn't put it past them.

Ours is like that and it pulls off at the front (the whole panel, not the flush). Could you try gently putting a screwdriver down one side and prising it away?

Sameoldboat78 · 22/06/2019 16:11

Open the door to the side of the panel. Which let you get something in behind the panel. It then pops off. It just clips on. Although the cistern is likely a sealed unit so depending on what you are needing to do, you may be limited.

it's possible that the chrome ring round the buttons screws off if you can grip it, e.g. with rubber gloves. I like to leave them a bit hoose sp ot's easy.

the panel might have been fixed with any number of concealed fittings. Maybe it will lift up a bit, maybe it will pry off, maybe you annoyed the plumber and he glued the shelf above into place.

I am not in favour of things that are difficult to maintain.

Next time ypu have it done, ask for some visible fixing screws. You can have chrome-dome screws if you want.

Some people have a dislike of visible screws.

Your bath panel might also be invisibly fixed. This will be inconvenient when the bath overflows and you need to take the panel off to ventilate underneath.

The larger panel below may be fitted with magnetic catches. If you can take that off you may be able to then access the flush and the top panel. In fact the top panel may have magnetic catches too.

Try looking for a how to video on YouTube.

The bath panel was the wrong size and had been glued on. I suspect something similar has happened here.

I think when you sell a house you should have to declare how much DIY you did and whether you were any good.

I've been messing about with this off and on all afternoon and I just can't move it.

Our was similar and I couldn't figure omit our. Took a knife and slid it in and it just popped out

ThrowThoseCurtainsWide · 22/06/2019 21:44

OP I think your only option may be a crowbar.... What do you need to get into the cistern for?

CallingOnAvengingAngels · 22/06/2019 21:46

I popped ours that's a bit like this out with a screwdriver when the toilet flush button got stuck and kept running.
