How much upheaval does a new boiler cause?

We have a list of things we’d like to do to the house.

One of them is a new boiler. We’re also planning to rewire and have certain rooms replastered.

If we had the rewire done, plastering THEN boiler ... would that ruin the new walls or does a boiler only affect under the floor?

Thanks

New boiler is minimal disruption if you're siting it in the same location as the old one. Ours didn't even involve floorboards coming up, as it was at eye level so is just connected to the old pipes.

I think we’re planning to move it to the kitchen but the cupboard it’s in now is right next to the kitchen and the kitchen isn’t being touched decorwise.

Do they connect new pipes to radiators or anything like that when they’re doing it?

A question for your plumber I think - it could be anything from no disruption at all to boards up all round the house depending on whether it’s just swapping in a new boiler or pipe work too

Thanks! I’m just trying to find out whether boilers and their associated pipes affect walls or just floors generally.

Normally a pipe goes in and one comes out, if you don’t move it then they just cut the pipes take the old one out and reattached the new one. If you move it the pipes need to go to where the new boiler will be.

We moved ours from kitchen to utility room when it broke down. From what I recall they had to lift floorboards on the landing and an upstairs bedroom. We have no carpets and unfinished floorboards so it made no difference to us.

If you haven't already, get a separate quote for the cost of the new boiler itself and see if it's cheaper to buy it yourself. We saved £1000 Hmm

I had my boiler replaced late last year - it wasn't being re-positioned - they put some new piping through to the outside but otherwise nothing - took 2 days/ New boiler is smaller than the old one so had to repaint Grin
