When potential buyers ask...

Questions like ... is there any upcoming work needs doing in the house?

How would you answer this?

Surely you would just say you’re on top of all the maintenance, unless it’s clear you’re not. A survey will tell them. Not sure anyone has ever asked that to me.

Shitsandgigglez · 18/06/2019 18:56

Have you ever actually been asked this? I've never been asked this in all the viewings in all the houses I've ever sold.

I think buyers tend to rely on a professional survey to get the answer to this question x

Shitsandgigglez · 18/06/2019 18:56

Sorry OP I accidentally kissed you 😳

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 18/06/2019 19:08

Ha! X

Yes have just been asked this!!
Am thinking the same thing about the survey myself - I'm not their bloody surveyor am I?!

We're they first time buyers? What a weird thing to ask. Houses always need something doing. As for details of what might need doing, that's what their survey is for.

DragonflyInn · 18/06/2019 22:40

It’s so subjective as well. Ie old windows that we are perfectly happy with might ‘need’ replacing in someone else’s opinion.

Trouble is you don’t want to sound that you’re hiding something. I’d just say something like there’s nothing significant you are aware of (assuming that is the case!) and you would advise them to take professional advice.

wowfudge · 19/06/2019 08:07

What did you reply with OP?

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 19/06/2019 08:52

Just said no.
There were LOTS of other questions and had also politely pointed out that a Victorian house will always require upkeep.

And don't see how that's a weird question. For example, if you're aware of the roof needing patching up or the boiler being on the blink, it's only honest to mention something. Other than that, you'd hope everyone realises that houses need maintenance.

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 19/06/2019 15:48

I guess the thing is jojo that my definition of when a job needs doing could well be different from theirs.
And in an old house there's always stuff you could do.
So my feeling is that they need to get a survey & make their own decision. The house is priced in the state as seen 🤷🏻‍♀️

I was asked what I would do to the house if I was staying. I replied, have an architect round as when you live somewhere for a long time you need new ideas.

What I could have said was the windows probaby need doing.
