Neutral carpets

We are changing our whole house so will need new carpet. Downstairs is tiled, stairs and landing sorted, but the bedrooms I’d like 1 neutral carpet throughout. Is creamy beige old fashioned now? I can’t quite feel the love for grey. What do other people do? I don’t want different colours in each room as it always feels a bit patchwork

Having a similar dilemma, currently have a creamy colour throughout but it is a bit of a pain for showing marks, like you not a fan of grey everywhere so hoping someone comes along with some fab suggestions.

Grey is popular, but we have opted for wood plus rugs, easier to keep clean

Even in all the bedrooms stucknoue

I'd be interested to know how fully carpeted vs wood floors + rugs compare. I like the look of wood floors better but concerned they are colder.
Have lived with beige carpets throughout (except kitchen and bathroom) for the past few years and I wouldn't choose to put them in our new place. Not sure what would be better though.

Have been pondering the same question. Would be open to grey but worried a light grey would still show up the dirt and a dark grey would drain the light. House on market so needs to be neutral but old carpets are really tatty.

CarolinePooter · 17/06/2019 12:46

We've always gone for a sort of tea colour as that is what gets spilled the most!

Xiaoxiong · 17/06/2019 12:59

The people moving into our house are putting in a velvety sage-green carpet throughout the downstairs and painting the walls bright white. It's going to look lovely. I wasn't expecting it to look so "neutral" but there's something about it that kind of convinces the brain it's like grass or moss, and when combined with wood furniture it looks glorious

We couldn't live without carpet in the UK. When we lived abroad tiles were great but there's too much poor weather here to not have the cosiness of carpet.

We went for a creamy flecked carpet. It's been brilliant, 7 years old now and still looks new. Because of the flecking it doesnt show the dirt. It's had red wine and beer spilt of it but it's come up like new.

Hecateh · 17/06/2019 14:07

I think that whatever colour you go for it should be flecked. Plain in whatever will show marks a lot more. A biscuity flecked one is pretty neutral and hides a lot of sins.
I now have a cushioned vinyl and have definitely realised I didn't vacuum enough when I had carpet as without doing anything messy I have to vac close to where I sit every day, or it looks a mess

Baxdream · 17/06/2019 14:12

We went for a cream colour. I'm not a fan of grey either. My house is very modern and the carpet colour is perfect

I like natural look loop carpets - looks like sisal but softer. Its a good neutral base for puttin g rugs on to as well and quite hard wearing.

Thanks for the ideas and comments. Glad beige/brown/tea/cream doesn’t scream granny’s house! I’d love to do wood throughout, but agree it’s too cold here, also noisy.

Don't rule grey out, I've just replaced my winter white carpets with a dark silvery flecked one and it looks amazing. I don't think I'll ever have to hoover it 👍

TiddleTaddleTat · 17/06/2019 21:19

Definitely something with texture or flecked. Easier to keep clean (looking).

Yeahyeahyeahyeeeeah · 17/06/2019 21:19

@userxx I don’t suppose you’d post a pic would you?... I’m hoping I’m not just stuck in a rut and seeing something looking good might give me a push!

Yeah no problem, I'll post one tomorrow for you when it's in natural light.

And another. It looks a lot darker on the stairs as its north facing. I absolutely love it and a huge change from my white carpets.

Oh wow, it looks really different on the stairs, but really good. Food for thought. Thanks Smile

Ignore the mess, this was directly after it was put down! I went from a beige fleck to this and really love it

And the previous beige one

It is food for thought, I would never have gone for something that dark a while ago but absolutely love how it looks and how low maintenance it is. I'm a lazy cow with the hoover!

Yesqueen - that looks fab, much better darker.

Yeahyeahyeahyeeeeah · 18/06/2019 13:11

That’s a great comparison, thanks yesqueen

We went for 'Greige'!

It's somewhere between a lighter grey and beige so it's neutral and works with a variety of tones.
