What am I liable for in shared house?

I need to find somewhere to stay for six weeks whilst I'm working away. I've been looking on spare room and there are plenty of en suite rooms available. Most of them are in multi occupancy houses and require a deposit. My question is, what am I liable for in the communal areas? I'll be living in a house with random people I've never met, so what if any of them wreck something in the kitchen or lounge, would I get money taken out of my deposit?

If its only for 6 weeks get an Airbnb. In shared houses you're liable to have your names put on bills etc, far too much hard work for 6 weeks

If you only want 6 weeks why not try Airbnb or contacting b&b s and ask about long term rates.

Spare room is usually used for longer term arrangements (HMOs with a live our landlord and everyone on ASTs woukd usually be 6 months minimum, or lodgers in the life in landlords home which could be more flexible but you’re not very attractive at just 6 weeks)

If it’s for over the summer a lot of universities rent out their halls and aren’t ridiculously priced. Obviously a short term arrangement is what they are looking for as they want them back for students come October.

Hopeful bump...any landlords out there?

Sorry, my iPad hadn't updated replies. Yes I've looked at uni halls, they are pretty expensive for an en suite. The short term ones on spare room seem to be student houses that are empty for the summer, so they are renting the rooms out at a reduced rate with bills all included in the price.

Might be illegal subletting by tenants. I'd steer clear. What about looking for a room as a lodger?

rentalrantal · 16/06/2019 21:29

I've actually been trying to find a website that advertises rooms for lodgers but just keep getting sent back to spare room. Have looked at air bnb and the prices are outrageous (£900+ per month)

Try gumtree instead. Lots of private landlords advertise on there.

On spareroom you can select an option where you live with the home owner

Maybe put which area of country just in case someone here has something available? I do but very unlikely to be where you are looking for .

I didn't realise there was an option on spare room to select living with homeowner, I'll check that out thanks.
