DIY Kitchens Stanbury

Has anyone got the Stanbury painted kitchen?

We loved DIY kitchens. Great service. We went up and saw the kitchen fell in love and ordered. Delivered. All good.

But...it scratches sooooo easily. We have it painted in Hague blue and our house isn’t finished yet and already it has scratches in the paint in so many places. The plinths the drawers the end panels. Bottom of the island panels. I don’t know how it’s hapoening.
We’ve been having appliances fitted and worktops etc but surely this wouldn’t cause so much wear and tear. We haven’t even moved in yet and the little pot of paint they supply with the kitchen has nearly run out in patching up so many teeny spots.

Did anyone have similar issue with their painted kitchen?

I’m so disappointed because this is a long term house and kitchen. We’re not redoing it for at least 10 years.

I've heard this a lot on other groups. I think painted finish will always be susceptible to scratched though.

Faffandahalf · 16/06/2019 14:37

I knew that being painted meant some scratches eventually. But it’s only been in for 4 weeks and we have t even moved in. The builders aren’t being particularly rough at all and some bits seem to have scratches no where near appliances. The ends of panels for example. There’s a huge one right at eye level near the oven which is going to drive me mad because even with the pot of paint you can obviously tell the difference.

I am really regretting the purchase. And I can’t do anything about it now!

I have Norton in the kitchen and Stanbury in the utility room, both in Mussel. They have been fitted about 18 months. Neither have scratches. The utility room gets bikes wheeled through from the garage and kids come in that way from school so it's not like there's not the opportunity for scratches to happen. Our paint surface seems really hard and tough.

I wonder if there is something wrong with the batch of paint they used? I'd contact them, you've got nothing to lose.

Faffandahalf · 16/06/2019 14:49

Thanks nettle

I’m just not sure what there is they could even do though?

The worktops have been fitted so couldn’t be removed as have appliances. So they can’t take kitchen apart or replace panels etc.

Just makes me feel sick every time I go there and see a new scratch. Sad

I understand.

Maybe the paint will harden further over time?

If you contact them they may still have paint from the batch they they could come and touch it up with? Or send to you to do the same?

Do you have any off cuts left over that you can test how easily it scratches and then send them a video or send the off cut back?

What's happening to your kitchen isn't what's meant to happen. Sad

Ok those are good suggestions. Will give it a go thanks

Something isn't right and you should go back to them over it.

Mintykat · 16/06/2019 15:46

Just wondering if it could be a quality issue related to their recent porblem with their spray lines for painted kitchens?
It's clearly been a huge problem for them - I got asked if I was willing to my delay my delivery to 5 weeks later than I'd booked for!
I'd definitely flag it with them - doesn't sound right all.

Faffandahalf · 16/06/2019 16:53

Hi Minty what problem was this exactly?

wanderlustgirl · 16/06/2019 16:56

Interestingly we have the norton, the F&B one is fine but our custom
Colour seems to scratch more easily...

BentNeckLady · 16/06/2019 17:00

Kitchen cabinet pain needs to be durable. It it isn’t durable then there’s something wrong with it. Have you spoken to DIY? I’ve read on other posts that they are having some quality issues at the moment.

Mummyilovejokes1 · 16/06/2019 18:39

Not ideal but you can order extra paint in the kitchen colour to touch up? Its expensive but we ordered some for this purpose. They may send you some pots for free if you speak to them about your issues/concerns?

Faffandahalf · 16/06/2019 18:41

mummy. They have sent a small pot out with the kitchen but it’s never going to look the same as the smooth painted finish. You can tell the difference between the original paint and the patchy effect of the touch up. It makes it look cheap and substandard

Mummyilovejokes1 · 16/06/2019 19:07

When i brought the extra paint they told me it should be sprayed on ideally to keep the finish, ours is a matt finish, I'm not sure on the Stanbury though.

Faffandahalf · 16/06/2019 19:10

Did you buy spray paint from DIY kitchens mummy? They just sent out a bottle with a brush inside

OP posts:
Mintykat · 16/06/2019 19:20

From what I can gather they installed a new robotic spray line for painted kitchens to replace an old one but it didn't go to plan.
I had an email on the 21st of may saying it had been down for 48 hours.
Then on the 30th may asking to delay my order until after the 15th July (was supposed to come 3rd June!).
In the past few days they have turned off visitor posts to their Facebook page and have had a huge amount of Trustpilot reviews posted for kitchens ordered two years ago which makes the recent low scoring reviews harder to find... I'm very suspicious at this point!

Mummyilovejokes1 · 16/06/2019 20:49

We just asked them if we could buy extra paint and they said yes. When i ordered it they said it was best being sprayed on. When it arrived it came in two separate pots 1 was a base and 1 was a hardner. Its the paint they use. No brush just tins like you would buy from a store.
We also got the touch up pots with the order but wanted to get extra paint just incase we needed it further down the line.

Faffandahalf · 17/06/2019 09:23

Well that doesn’t sound good minty

So mummy they sent you out regular tins and then did you buy something separately to spray paint it?

I might message them about this. I didn’t know you could get a base and hardener...

OP posts:
Faffandahalf · 17/06/2019 09:49

Holy crap. Am reading the poor reviews on Trustpilot. Fuuuuuuuck.

😥😥

OP posts:
Mummyilovejokes1 · 17/06/2019 12:57

Yea we got the standard small pots that they send out with the kitchen but we ordered a separate lot of paint, enough to repaint the kitchen (5 or 6 litres)if we needed too at a later date. Its £15 per litre. I just read her email to me and it definitely says it is designed to be sprayed and not painted on using a brush.

Faffandahalf · 26/07/2019 12:23

UPDATE: Here's a message I wrote on another thread:
APPALLING!
We have a bespoke painted kitchen. We've never used it as we haven't moved into the house. We had it installed in April supposedly before their painting issues so they say. It has chipped paint in about 13-14 different places. The touch up paint goes over it roughly because it will never look like the spray painted finish so it juts looks bumpy and shit.
They did an 'independent' inspection using a company called FIRA (man in a van taking some photos) which found they're not to blame and have abandoned us basically. There's no guarantee or service that says they will help you with the kitchen so we've nothing but a shit looking kitchen and nearly 7K out of pocket
