Tumble dryer and washing machine under stairs?

We're starting our extension in a couple of months and are having a rethink about putting the washing machine and condenser dryer in the kitchen due to noise.

I'm now thinking about putting them under the stairs. Do you know if there are any building regs that would stop me doing that?

We wanted to do the same but will now probably tuck a toilet under the stairs and keep the washer dryer in the kitchen.
I was too worried with noise travelling through the house and even being amplified by the wooden stairs.

My water/dryer is under the stairs. I chose a quiet make/model and don't overload it. Never been a problem.

In my last house they were built in in a corner of the kitchen. By that I mean the joiner built a cupboard using kitchen cupboard doors on a frame deep enough for them to fit in, with the dryer on a shelf above the washer. We packed the sides of the washer cupboard with thick cardboard to further muffle the sound.
In our new house, once again we had a joiner build cupboards deep enough with an MDF top painted the same colour of the doors. This time they are side by side. You can hear when the washer is on full spin, it not enough to be intrusive.

The appliances are in the middle on the photo, and the plinth hadn't been put on at that point. The wall cupboard hides the boiler on one side and piping on the other.

I have my washing machine under the stairs and it's been a good move. I'm not keen on small dryers so I have a separate one.

I wouldn’t, simply because the stairs are your primary emergency exit in the event of a fire while you’re upstairs and it’s possible that they could start a fire right under your exit route.

Yes I agree with Thomas, it's not great from a fire safety perspective. Think also wooden stairs, flammability...
And the current Whirlpool tumble dryer scandal - thousands of dryers have caught fire.

Thank you all for your comments. Food for thought.
There is the possibility of them going in another room down stairs, and if they were boxed in like Soon then I'd be happy with that.
I need to get my tape measure and squared paper out. I love a plan Smile
