Massive plumbing leak - how to claim?

We woke up this morning to find water pouring down from the spare bedroom, through the ceilings below and right down into the cellar. We'd had a decorator in yesterday, and he'd taken the radiator off and failed to reconnect it.

We've now got a plumber coming today to reconnect the radiator (don't trust the decorator!) but I'm worried with so much water there might be some structural damage, or damp resulting or something. I've spoken to the home insurance and they're sending a survey person on Monday to have a look.

How does this work with claiming any structural damage costs from insurance? We've spoken to the decorator and he accepts it's his fault, but does our buildings insurer claim the costs direct from him (like with a car accident that isn't your fault, so you don't lose your no claims discount), or do we ask the buildings insurer to contact him, or something else entirely?

Sorry for sounding all over the place, I'm in a bit of a panic and there's water everywhere!

Id give your insurance your decoraters details then let them deal with his insurance. I'd also ring your insurers up again about hiring a dehumidifier to get rid of any moisture in the fabric of the house as quickly as possible. But I'm not an expert this is what I'd do.

You will need to switch the lighting circuits off as a minimum and dry out. Prob need to get hem checked by an electrician, especially if you don't have an RCD fitted

Maybe try unscrewing the ceiling roses and drain any water collected in them. Leave them down to help drying out
