Mine's edged with bricks, if that's any help?

Put steps in. How are you going to get onto it? Steps all round. Brick looks great. We have that. Edge the lower side of it with plants but 2ft is too high for no safety fence or thick planting. Put in a sloping flower bed would also help.

brick edging can look very good. You can get red, buff, or slate-blue. You have to get a Paving or Engineering brick as ordinary bricks will spall and crumble in winter when they absorb water and it freezes.

Have a small brick wall built, on a concrete strip, with the top level with the patio. This means you have to start it in a slight trench. If you have paving slabs it will prevent them spreading sideways and getting loose. If it is a retaining wall and exposed on one side, it must be thicker and deeper.

The patio needs a slight fall (slope) so rainwater will run away from the house. The patio must not touch the house wall unless it is at least two bricks below the DPC, and airbricks must not be obstructed.

The photos are not mine but I liked the method so much I copied it.

We have almost identical but our bricks are from the local brickyard and are handmade. That picture is not 2 ft higher than the surrounding lawn though. I think that’s a bigger issue than the edge. It’s also difficult to mow a lawn that goes right up to a wall. Endless strimming as the mower won’t get near it.

Sorry I’m useless with hights it’s about a half a foot to a foot above the lawn and it’s at the end of the garden so not against the house here’s a picture. Lawn slops so one end is closer to the lawn iyswim. The base does also not go up to the fences.

Thanks pigletjohn. We are thinking of using slabs so we should still edge it with the bricks to stop the slabs from moving?

If it is already a slab of concrete, pavers laid on top will not move, but a brick edging wall will look much better.

Thank you. Yes concreatbalrwady there (think there was some kind of out building there years ago) prep owners had laid decking on top which we are now replacing with paving

If you are adding a step (make it wide) it can be done in matching brick
