Cowboy builder - too boring to go into multiple errors many of which are structural
Latest is the bathroom extractor fan which I have discovered i vents directly into the loft space. Building control initially have now said it is illegal and needs to be rectified.
The builder is suggesting I just vent with a flexible pipe to the side of the roof (near fascia boards) , bend it slightly and then have the vent face actually face down towards the ground.
I have established this is one day work for him and easy as it requires no ladders!
I have googled and
- Flexible duct not advised for a long run and
- Bends not advised and
- I cannot find anyone who thinks venting towards the ground is a possibility (this would be like smoking a cigarette while bending over - surely smoke gets in your eyes)
The alternative would have been to vent to side via a discrete grille (I’m in a conservation area) but scaffolding has been removed.
Or vent through bathroom wall. The problem with this is he says he can’t put up scaffolding so will have to use a ladder which means plonking an ugly white plastic extractor in the rear of my Georgian house (no one else has this)
What can should I do do you think?
