Hi All,
I have put an offer in to rent a house, close to my current rental, where' I've been for over 6 years. So, it's been a while since I've been through the process!
Just putting together all the referencing documents and I'm not entirely sure what they will check. The situation:
I currently have a £1,000 debit on my gas/electric. My supplier, in April, 'surprised' me with a £1,300 debit (at that point I was £300 in credit - this is also not a new situation, they've tried to do it before and I've always come out in credit) as they had re-estimated my bills. I must admit, I am lax with providing estimates myself which is on me.
I called them up, had a chat and they admitted that the energy usage they estimated is nigh-on impossible for the household (1 adult, 1 child - both out of the house from 8am-6.30pm). I am now providing gas readings (already helping the situation), and they are replacing the electricity meter which it turns out is faulty.
I am SO aware that had I provided timely readings I wouldn't have been in this situation in the first place - luckily the energy provider is above board and also recognises that their estimates are way off and are working with me to amend: we should be all resolved by August and if I still owe an amount I'm more than happy to pay that.
My question: will the tenancy reference checks unearth this debit? I don't want them to think I don't pay bills or am not on top of my utilities financially. I'm more than happy to email the new landlord's agency and explain the situation if needed, but any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you!
