What credentials do you need to see from an electrician/plumber?

My kitchen fitter has recommended an electrician plumber to manage that part of the job, but he doesn't have a website. I met him and his seems reasonably clued up but I want to make sure he's got the right certificates etc...

Does anyone know what I should ask to see before agreeing to use him? Insurances etc?!

I also noticed when I looked him up that he's closed a couple of companies in the last few years...should that be ringing alarm bells?

You can check the relevant register eg. NICEIC for electricians, to see their registration.
It's good to check. My electrician told me that 95% of people don't bother.

You should change liability insurance and ask their qualifications. They would need to either be registered with a scheme eg neceic, napit, stroma, etc or lodge the work with building control who would inspect.
They should also write a certificate for the work done including test results so check that before hand too
